Position: Social Worker
Job Summary: The Social Worker is a vital member of the treatment facility's team, providing programming, counselling, guidance, and support to Indigenous families seeking treatment and unification services. The primary focus of this role is to facilitate healing, cultural connection, and overall well-being for families within the context of substance abuse, loss, and trauma. The Social Worker will collaborate closely with the facility staff, community resources, and families to ensure culturally sensitive and holistic care is provided.
**Responsibilities**:
- Family Programming: Offer individual and group programming to Indigenous families, fostering a safe and non-judgmental environment where they can express concerns, share experiences, and learn from each other's journeys.
- Cultural Connection: Assist families in reconnecting with their cultural identity by incorporating traditional practices, ceremonies, and teachings into the treatment process. Collaborate with Elders, knowledge keepers, and other cultural resources to ensure cultural competency within the facility.
- Case Management: Conduct comprehensive assessments of families' needs, strengths, and challenges, and develop personalized treatment plans in collaboration with the treatment team. Monitor progress, provide ongoing support, and make appropriate referrals to community services as needed.
- Advocacy: Advocate for families within the treatment facility and in external settings, such as schools, social services, and healthcare providers, to ensure their cultural and treatment-related needs are met. Provide guidance and support in navigating complex systems.
- Education and Prevention: Develop and deliver culturally appropriate workshops, training sessions, and educational materials for families, emphasizing recovery, parenting, healthy coping strategies, and overall well-being. Promote awareness of available community resources.
- Family Engagement: Facilitate family-centered activities, including family and parenting programming, recreation, and cultural events, to promote positive relationships, effective communication, and supportive networks among family members.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of interactions, progress, and services provided to families. Prepare reports and documentation as required by the facility and agencies.
- Collaboration and Networking: Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations, agencies, and other treatment facilities to enhance support for families. Participate in meetings, conferences, and committees related to family and community services.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Indigenous culture and practices
- A degree or diploma in social work.
- Registration with SASW
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search
- Valid Class 5 Drivers License & Abstract
- CPR-C/First Aid
- Two Employment References
- Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous families, particularly in the areas of addiction, mental health, and trauma.
- Knowledge of Indigenous culture, history, traditions, and contemporary issues.
- Familiarity with local community resources and services available to Indigenous families.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to establish rapport and build relationships with families, staff, and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and contribute to a positive and supportive work environment.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Non-judgmental and compassionate approach to support families facing challenging circumstances.
- Proficiency in documentation and report writing.
**Job Types**: Full-time, Part-time
Part-time hours: 20-40 per week
**Salary**: $28.06-$33.00 per hour
