In collaboration with the **Maintenance Manager**, the Assistant Maintenance Manager will lead the Maintenance Department and Program to ensure the building, plant infra-structure equipment, and production lines are reliable, working safely, and meeting performance targets.

**Responsibilities**
- Responsible for coordinating, planning, setting priorities, and following up on maintenance activities to facilitate optimum plant performance, including labour/resources/shift requirements.
- In collaboration with the Maintenance Manager, oversees the duties completed by Trades People by motivating, inspiring, and demonstrating excellent work ethics.
- Coordinates with the operations teams to ensure the safe and efficient operation of production equipment.
- Support Operations in finding opportunities, implementing, and maintaining the process and equipment improvement, automation, and cost reduction initiatives.
- Provides troubleshooting in breakdown situations to ensure production efficiencies can be achieved.
- Leads and maintains preventative maintenance programs to reduce breakdowns and extend the life of the equipment.
- In collaboration with the Maintenance Manager, optimize cost through effective budget planning, resources management, and reduction in reactionary purchases and repairs.
- Continuously strives to reduce reactionary maintenance by fixing the root cause.
- Ensure that the members of the maintenance department are committed to always following safe work procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment.
- Ensure all work performed adheres to provincial and federal safety regulations, codes, and specifications. Identify and report any potential hazards, near misses, and incidents.
- Sourcing for the best suppliers and outside contractors
- Supervise and ensure contractors adhere to facility procedures and achieve contractual requirements, including equipment installations, modifications, and maintenance including as required on weekends or off-production periods.
- Represents the Maintenance Department on the Joint Health and Safety Committee
- Provides leadership for the department during vacation coverage and in the absence of the Maintenance Manager
- Other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Manager.

**Skills and Qualifications**
- Certified Journeyperson or post-secondary education related to Maintenance and Operations
- 3 years of leadership experience in maintenance management and at least 1 year of experience in managing employees and resources required.
- Excellent project management skills
- Experience in a manufacturing setting is considered an asset.
- Commitment to promoting a culture that supports safety, ethical practice, and organizational health.
- Sound knowledge of computerized building management systems and preventative maintenance programs
- Communication Skills: Must be a clear and concise communicator, keep your team informed of process changes, ask clarifying questions, and seeks assistance when needed. Is confident in providing recommendations to the Maintenance Manager and Operations Leadership.
- Critical Thinking: Has the ability to think clearly and rationally and is able to engage in reflective and independent thinking. Critical thinkers understand the logical connections between ideas, identify mistakes in reasoning and solve problems systematically.
