Skate Shop Helper/maintenance and Patrol

The Municipality of North Cowichan (population 31,900) is located in the beautiful Cowichan Valley on Southern Vancouver Island, between Nanaimo and Victoria. Our communities of Chemainus, Crofton, Maple Bay and the South End are home to a multitude of artistic, cultural and outdoor recreational activities. Specific duties include:

- Teaching skate lessons, ice patrol, skate shop operation, program delivery and building maintenance;
- Establishing and maintaining positive relations with facility user groups and the general public;
- Providing direct instruction and leadership for program offerings;
- Maintaining equipment and supplies used for programs and functions;
- Leading the operation and security of programs on assigned shifts;
- Enforcing rules and regulations when necessary; and
- Performing other work on an as-needed basis.

Deployment to other duties may be required from time to time.

Required Skills, Qualifications and Abilities:

- Completion of Grade 10.
- Possession and maintenance of current Standard First Aid certificate.
- Proficiency in ice skating and possession of own skates and CSA approved helmet.
- Experience in program content delivery for a range of innovative recreational programs, services and events.
- Basic knowledge and commitment to WorkSafeBC, Ministry of Health, BC Safety Authority regulations and safety procedures and other related regulatory requirements as related to the safe operation of arena facilities.
- Demonstrable ability to receive and implement directions, manage competing priorities, meet facility standards and ideals and work towards excellence in the operation of the Arena.
- Basic understanding of building and skate shop operations.
- Ability to work independently as well as under supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:

- BCRPA High-Five Quest 100 - Essential Child Development
- Fundamental Movement Skills Certification
