**Qualifications**:

- Class A driver’s license
- Air brake endorsement
- Clean driver’s abstract
- Criminal background check
- Must have 7 years of Class A verifiable driving experience

**Expert knowledge of**:

- Federal and provincial traffic rules and regulations
- FMCSR rules and regulations, CSA Basic components
- Ontario Highway Traffic Act and underlying regulations
- National Safety Code (NSC) Standards
- CVOR system
- C-TPAT and PIP program requirements
- Drug and Alcohol testing policies and procedures
- Canada Labour Code and workplace safety
- Entry level driver training requirements
- Fatigue Risk and Management
- Driver Fitness and Wellness

**Expert knowledge and proven experience in the field of**:

- Vehicle inspections
- Cargo distribution and securement
- Transportation of dangerous goods and hazardous materials
- Transportation of temperature controlled loads, use of reefer units
- Border crossing and customs procedures
- Cargo security
- Vehicle weight limits, length sizes and dimensions
- Defensive driving
- Speed and space management
- Coupling and uncoupling of trailers
- Backing and loading dock safety
- Hours of service for commercial drivers
- Route planning and communication with dispatchers
- Use of on-board recording, GPS navigation and communication equipment
- Accident reporting and emergency procedures
- Roadside inspections
- PPE and emergency equipment

**Specific Skills**:

- Prepare teaching materials and outlines for orientation and training courses
- Prepare orientation and training courses calendars and schedules
- Prepare, administer and mark tests and papers to evaluate students’ progress
- Deliver lectures and presentations
- Conduct course and program evaluation and review
- Lead discussion
- Train and supervise students in practical shop work session
- Hazard perception knowledge and skills
- Designing maneuvering skill and on-road test areas
- Designing road-test routes and procedures and conducting road tests
