**Job Summary**
The County of Stettler has an exciting career opportunity for an experienced professional for the position of Community Peace Officer - (Level 1).
Under the general direction of the Senior Community Peace Officer, the Community Peace Officer (CPO) is responsible for ensuring compliance with a variety of provincial statutes. This position provides community awareness and education specific to appointed statutes, investigation of complaints, and preparation and maintenance of records related to the work. The CPO will also be involved in advising and recommending the establishment of policies and procedures concerning the operation of the Protective Service Department and the reports to Council on a regular basis. The CPO will be required to work a variety of hours. Standard shifts are daytime and will include a portion of a weekend. CPO may be required to work evenings based on operational requirements.
This is a Level 1 CPO position pursuant to the Peace Officer Act and is a Bylaw Enforcement Officer pursuant to the Municipal Government Act. The CPO shall operate in accordance with policies and directives set by both the County and Alberta Justice and Solicitor General. The CPO ensures that enforcement of Provincial Statutes, municipal bylaws and other legislation is undertaken in a fair and consistent manner and follows the principles of natural justice.
**Requirements**:
- Post-secondary diploma in a law enforcement field or a Grade 12 diploma supplemented with recent law enforcement experience;
- Appointment as a CPO Level 1 under the Peace Officer Act, or the ability to be confirmed;
- Ability to pass RCMP enhanced criminal record check and security clearance;
- Ability to successfully complete the Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (PARE) test;
- Alberta Class 5 driver’s license with an acceptable drivers abstract;
- First Aid and CPR certification desired;
- 2 - 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience acceptable to the County.
- Radar, baton and OC spray certification is required.
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES**
- Knowledge of Commercial Vehicle Enforcement will be considered an asset.
- Knowledge and experience in Emergency Management will be considered an asset.
- Good working knowledge of the Municipal Government Act and other relevant laws and regulations;
- Exceptional interpersonal relationship abilities and excellent conflict resolution skills;
- Ability to communicate effectively using courtesy, positivity, tact and discretion;
- Possess sound judgement and decision-making skills;
- Ability to represent the County in a professional, competent manner;
- Physical ability to perform the duties, work in all weather conditions and will be required to work on weekends and statutory holidays on a shift schedule of 40 hours/ Week.
NOTE: This position of CPO also requires the member to act as a Deputy Director of Emergency Management for the Regional Emergency Management Agency, which represents all municipalities within the boundaries of the County of Stettler, including the Town of Stettler. As such, knowledge and training in Emergency Management is highly desirable.
Pay: $75,000.00-$89,000.00 per year
