**POSITION: BUILDING MAINTENANCE** **REPORTING RELATIONSHIP**: Reports to the Manager of Central Administration **PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION**: To provide ground and building maintenance services for the following locations: - Six Nations Administration Building - Records - Human Resources - Six Nations Library - Six Nations Veterans Park - Six Nations Survivor’s Secretariat - Mohawk Village Park **RESPONSIBILITIES**: - **Maintenance Functions**: - Administration Building/Human Resources/Records/Library - Empties trash cans and other waste containers. - Washes interior walls and ceilings and dusts. - Orders cleaning supplies. - Pick up of large supply boxes, heavy deliveries. - Moves furniture, paints, washes exterior windows as required. - Opens and locks building when advised by the staff. - Checks on a monthly basis that fire extinguishers and emergency lighting fixtures throughout the buildings are operational. - Makes adjustments and minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilating, plumbing and electrical systems. - On call 24 hours a day 7 days a week to reset security alarm. - Pick up and removal of trash and recyclables to the Landfill site. - **ii) Ground Maintenance**: - Snow and salt walkways as required. - Snow removal of parking lot(s) and laneways and sidewalks, monitor as required. - Maintenance of grounds, including grass cutting, weed eating, and minor landscaping. - Paint guardrails and replace posts that have rotted within Veterans Park. - Pick up and removal of trash and recyclables to the Landfill site. - Building Maintenance: - Compile list of required repairs and carry out required repairs in a timely manner in reference to KIAS/ACRS. - Maintain a logbook for all activities. - Determine repairs that are required to be carried out by qualified trades, obtains estimates (following the financial policies) for minor repairs and authorizes the work to be completed. - Will perform general maintenance and repairs - Obtain quotes from qualified trades to complete major work/repairs if necessary, and forwards for approval to proceed. - Procure the necessary materials and equipment required to complete the work - Ensure a recording of all inventory, equipment is maintained. - Maintain equipment and tools as required. - Maintain vehicles by completing minor repairs and service. Schedule major repairs and service at approved service centers. - Carry out on-call duties as required. - Schedule and oversee the work of independent contractors to ensure repairs are carried out as prescribed. - Pick up and removal of trash and recyclables to the Landfill site. - Call qualified personnel for specialized jobs - **Communications Functions** - Effective liaison with supervisors, staff, community members, general public and Chief and council in person or by telephone. - 3**. Administrative** - Completion, submission and entering of: time, leave forms, travel forms, performance appraisals and workplans in accordance with Six Nations of the Grand River Elected Council - Ensure proper filing of documents electronically or hard copy - Completion of log in/out sheets as required - Perform work functions in accordance with Six Nations of the Grand River Elected Council policies and procedures - Attend meetings as required - Attend training/workshops as required. - **Other Functions**: - Order supplies for other departments - Ensure diesel generator fuel tank is filled at the Ambula, ice Building - Related duties as may be required and are reasonable for the position. - Perform projects as assigned. **WORKING CONDITIONS**: **WORKING RELATIONSHIPS**: With the Manager of Central Administration: Receives direction, guidance and discusses plans, priorities and interacts to ensure tasks are done efficiently and effectively, receives instructions, supervision; provides information, reports as required. With other staff members: Courtesy, cooperation and teamwork with all staff With the Public: Represents and promotes Six Nations of the Grand River Elected Council in a courteous, positive and cooperative manner. **KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS**: College Diploma in Building Maintenance Mechanic with a minimum of two years work related experience. Must have a Class "G" License in good standing. Or: Ontario Secondary School Diploma; or equivalency; with five (5) years work related experience. Must have Class "G" License in good standing. Must possess excellent working knowledge of a building maintenance including minor electrical, plumbing, heating, carpentry, painting and waste management. Ability to pass a police security check. Must be bondable. Possess ability to prioritize and assign multiple tasks. Possess initiative and ability to work independently. Possess ability to analyze repairs required and prepare co1., estimates. Exhibit good organizational skills and ability to take direction. Ability to analyze and recommend solutions and/or implement solutions. Must be able to prioritize and meet deadline
