**Overview**

The University Students’ Council at Western University is seeking a Manager, Government Relations with the Advocacy and Government Services Department on a 2-year Full-Time contract basis**.**

**Job purpose**

The Manager, Government Relations acts as a resource for the Students’ Council at Western University (USC). Reporting to the Senior Manager, Advocacy and Government Services, the Manager, Government Relations advises staff and the Executive on how to further the USC’s student advocacy priorities. The Manager, Government Services is responsible for assisting with public-facing Executive advocacy at the municipal, provincial, and federal government levels

**Duties and responsibilities**
- Assist staff and Executives in planning advocacy efforts toward Western University administration and all levels of government.
- Assist in providing staff support for Executives’ participation in partner organizations, including the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance (OUSA), and any other external bodies the USC may join.
- Provide staff support for Executives at conferences and government relations meetings.
- Provide education and training on government and media relations for staff or Executives.
- Prepare short-term projects, such as fact sheets, briefings, or campaign material copy.
- Oversee staff and assist Executives in creating submissions to government and other advocacy documents on student issues.
- As assigned, assist staff and Executives in drafting and amending political policies.
- Create and maintain records on political issues and trends, legislation, meetings with government, and relations with partner organizations for the purpose of creating permanent institutional memory.
- Collect and catalog a variety of data relevant to post-secondary education for strategic advice to staff and Executives.
- As assigned, support Executives and Marketing and Communications staff in media relations.
- Oversee the work of the Research Analyst.
- Perform any other job-related duties as required.

**Qualifications**
- A University Degree is required
- Experience in an advocacy or government relations environment
- 2 years management experience preferred
- Previous experience in a student politics is an asset

**Working conditions**
- This position is required to be in-office
- Working at a desk and with a computer for long periods will be required
- This position may involve some travel

Pay: $60,000.00-$65,000.00 per year
