In-home Caregiver

ROLE PURPOSE
The Home Share Program is a residential option in which adults with developmental disabilities share a home with someone who is contracted with Connective to provide ongoing support. The Home Share Provider role is to provide a safe home environment where adults can develop social and life skills to ready themselves to reach their full potential for independence. Connective is looking for a caregiver that S can live with. He is a young adult who would like to live in Langley, Mission or Chilliwack.

S needs help managing Type 2 diabetes, and support with accessing the community due to anxiety, vulnerability and challenges navigating traffic safely. S has a great sense of humor and responds well when others use humor too. He enjoys playing Pokemon Go, going for walks, swimming, basketball and spending time with animals. S becomes fearful when left alone for more than an hour or two. When S is overwhelmed he can escalate quickly and lash out verbally and/or physically but will calm himself if caregivers disengage and give him space. His parents live in Abbotsford and will continue to have a positive presence in his life.

J is on the autism spectrum and would require a separate suite in the caregiver’s house if they are providing support in their home to S as well since they do not get along. J needs support and encouragement to access the community safely. He keeps his environment tidy and enjoys healthy food. He takes medications to manage his mental health and left to his own devices he will sleep all day and stay up all night online. He would like to attend post-secondary schooling for computer programming. Hobbies include computers, technology and napping. He is very sensitive to noise and requires a calm and quiet environment (no young children or loud pets).

STATUS
Contractor; this position requires the supervision of the client as needed.

LOCATIONS
Langley or Abbotsford.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Provides flexible and evolving support to individuals changing needs within a home
- Works with the guidelines and instructions within the Home Sharing Services Handbook and all other policies and standards set for the Home Sharing Program
- Provides suitable accommodation (ownership or lease), to be the primary residence of the individual
- Ensures a stable, structured and home-like environment and positive role models to guarantee the safety of the Individual
- Takes appropriate action to accomplish the objectives set for the service user
- Cooperates with any plan established by the Agency or the Ministry for the placement of the Individual outside the Home
- Establishes safety and emergency procedures to provide support, care and supervision consistent with the Personal Service Plan of the Individual
- Ensures that the Individual and their chosen family are involved in all planning and decision making on matters affecting the Individual, whenever possible
- Assists the individual in making effective choices concerning the development and maintenance of friendships and relationships
- Conducts regular and ongoing communication with the individual’s support teams, maintaining clear and professional relationships
- Fulfills necessary administrative duties, such as completing Critical Incident Reports
- Reports to Home Share Manager on a regular basis, and in bi-monthly check-ins

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- Has a trauma informed approach and/or a harm reduction model of support
- Is adept at conflict resolution and de-escalation
- Is familiar with Positive Behaviour Interventions and Supports, Crisis Intervention techniques and a good sense of humour.
- Has appropriate space and time to care for the individual
- Has a desire or experience to assist individuals achieve their optimal independence
- Significant and recent experience in providing care to individuals facing multiple barriers

**REQUIREMENTS**:

- Ability to successfully complete a Criminal Records Check for everyone in the residence that is over 18 years old
- Current Emergency First Aid Certificate
- Comfortable working with substance use and mental health
- Semi-independent suite or room in the house needed

COMPENSATION
The compensation for the in-home caregiver is $3011 - $4085 per month (non-taxable).
