**ABOUT US**

At Huron Women’s Shelter, we provide emergency shelter, a second-stage program with residential component, counselling, children's programs, and wrap-around support to women and families impacted by gender-based violence. Grounded in feminist, gender-based analysis (GBA+), and trauma and violence-informed (TVI) frameworks, our work is deeply relational, client-centered, and rooted in community partnerships. We are also intentional about creating a collaborative and professional work environment that is healthy, transparent, and aligned with our values.

**ABOUT THE ROLE**

The Outreach Transition Advocate provides direct support to women impacted by GBV who are navigating complex systems such as legal, housing, and social supports. Through therapeutic relationships, you accompany women on their healing journey, developing flexible transition plans that prioritize safety, system navigation, advocacy, and pathways to independence.

**Scope and Responsibilities**

**Client Support**: Build and maintain therapeutic, TVI relationships, providing safety planning, risk assessments, advocacy, and referrals. Transitional Case Management: Collaborate with women to identify needs, set goals, and create flexible transition plans that support their healing journey.

**System Navigation & Advocacy**: Advocate and assist clients in navigating housing, legal, healthcare, family court, and social systems, attending appointments and court proceedings for support.

**Community Partnerships**: Strengthen relationships with service providers and justice partners, educating them on GBV and improving access and protocols.

Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate case notes, comply with agency policies, and prepare progress reports as needed.

Team Collaboration: Share expertise with colleagues, contribute to case conferences, and support the success of Huron Women’s Shelter programs.

**WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE**

**Qualifications & Skills**:

- Post-secondary degree in Social Work, Women’s Studies, Business/Public Administration or equivalent (or Social Service Worker Diploma with relevant experience).
- Minimum two years of direct experience in social services, with preference for GBV-related and system navigation experience.
- Knowledge of justice processes and legal systems; experience or training in legal/justice systems is an asset.
- Strong risk assessment, safety planning, case management, and advocacy skills.
- Outstanding communication, conflict resolution, and active listening skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, build community partnerships and facilitate collaborative problem-solving.
- Proficient in computer technology, documentation, and client databases.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and proof of adequate insurance.
- Clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC).
- CPR and First Aid certification (ASIST, CPI an asset).
- Fluency in other languages is considered an asset.

**LOCATION AND HOURS OF WORK**

This is a full-time position at 35 hours a week, working from our office located at 376 Huron Rd. Goderich ON., occasional evenings and weekends may be required. The Outreach Transition Advocate will also be working in non-standard workplaces when supporting women and their families at Second Stage Housing facilities and in the community.

Pay: $28.00 per hour
