Position Overview
Position: Undergrad Intern - Internal Audit
Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Franklin Templeton’s global internal audit program provide assurance and control advisory services across the global Franklin Templeton footprint and works closely with Enterprise Risk Management team, which is responsible for promoting risk awareness, enhancing risk management practices and supporting risk-aware decision-making across the enterprise. Internal Audit assists Management and multiple Audit Committees in their risk oversight responsibilities by providing regular updates on our independent analysis of processes, controls, and systems.
We’re a global team of approximately 30 people. Our department’s mandate extends across all of Franklin Templeton and our Specialist Investment Managers. We’re two years into a transformation in how the team and function works and hope that an intern can assist on one of our ‘road map’ initiatives designed to continue to mature our program. In addition to Internal Audit leadership and team members - an intern that works with us may be exposed to personnel, documentation, and processes in Investing & Trading, Distribution, Technology, Fund Administration, Legal & Compliance among others.
From a team perspective, we have bi-weekly team ‘catch ups’ that give us a chance to connect about topics outside of work and a monthly global team meeting to address hot topics and informational topics as a team. This is in addition to other daily and weekly meetings team members participate in related to project and audit work.
Key Responsibilities Could Include:
The team is looking for a motivated individual to assist with various special projects, including data collection & analysis, visualization, and maintenance. Franklin Templeton’s internal audit function is co-sourced with Deloitte and this position will work alongside seasoned professionals within both Franklin Templeton and Deloitte. Responsibilities will include assisting in coordination of project planning, resourcing, information gathering and reporting, and execution across multiple Franklin Templeton and Deloitte systems and resources. Specifically,
- Assist in compiling, reviewing, and editing Internal Audit internal and stakeholder deliverables;
- Communicate/coordinate with team members to identify and maintain deliverable status, including budgets and resourcing;
- Attend project and status meetings and maintain notes;
- Assist in evaluating audit results and compiling monthly internal audit status updates for reporting to the Firm’s various Audit Committees and oversight Boards;
- Assist with research and training programs as requested;
- Assist with data analytic and audit operation/reporting projects
- Other duties as assigned.
Ideal Qualifications:
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree
- Innovative thinker; can take a fresh look on current processes and identify new and creative ways to challenge the status quo
- Proactive and agile learner; can quickly come up to speed with the business
- Strong communicator (both verbal and written)
- Proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint
- Experience or working knowledge with data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau)
