NAIT Protective Services is seeking a dedicated and skilled individual to join our team as a Level 1 Peace Officer. This is a full-time, permanent position, reporting to a Peace Officer Sergeant. As a NAIT Community Peace Officer (CPO), you will play a key role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for staff, students, visitors, and NAIT property. NAIT CPOs are integral to the NAIT community, operating within a Community Policing Model. They build and support partnerships through crime prevention education and innovative problem-solving initiatives. CPOs provide around-the-clock support, addressing the safety and security needs of the NAIT community. This includes delivering general information services, physical security, personal safety services, investigative support, and property management. NAIT CPOs also serve as vital liaisons during campus emergencies, working closely with emergency services personnel from partner agencies. Appointed as "community peace officers," NAIT CPOs have the discretionary authority to enforce certain regulations, bylaws, and statutes within municipal and provincial legislation. They uphold high standards of customer service, accountability, and best practices, while representing core values of honesty, integrity, professionalism, and mutual respect. **Key Responsibilities**: - Provide safety and security services to the NAIT community on a 24/7 basis - Respond to emergencies and work collaboratively with external emergency services - Investigate and report on incidents involving property or personal safety - Build relationships within the community to support crime prevention initiatives - Enforce bylaws, municipal and provincial statutes - Maintain a high standard of customer service and professionalism **Skills & Abilities**: - Be physically fit and able to pass the Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (P.A.R.E.) with a minimum passing score at or under four minutes and forty-five seconds (4:45) or other approved physical evaluation. (Evaluation testing will be undertaken at the assessment stage paid for by the applicant). **Qualifications**: - Completion of a recognized post-secondary education program in law enforcement, criminal justice, or a related field or equivalent prior experience in a Peace Officer Level 1 position (or equivalent) in lieu of education - Possession of a Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License (or provincial equivalent). Maintaining a driver’s license is a requirement for this position. Applicants will be required to provide a drivers abstract suitable to NAIT Protective Services. A Class 5 GDL license will not be accepted. - Possession of valid Standard First Aid and Basic CPR Level C certificates and AED qualified. - Valid PPCT (or equivalent) certificate with Baton endorsement - Valid oleoresin capsicum (OC) spray certificate - Employment is dependent upon an enhanced Police Information Check, including a Vulnerable Sector check, that are satisfactory to NAIT Protective Services and the Alberta Solicitor General. **Assets**: - The following certifications would be considered an asset_ - Experience as a Level 1 Peace Officer with appointment authorities related to the Traffic Safety Act, Trespass to Premises Act, Gaming Liquor and Cannabis Act. - Experience working in a post-secondary environment or other diverse customer service focused organization - Experience using Resolver incident management solutions or equivalent incident reporting databases - Law Enforcement Bike Association (LEBA) Level B Training Certification - Verbal Judo or Tactical Communications Certification - Defensive Driving Training - WHMIS Training **Application: All applicants must complete the Peace Officer “Application for Employment” document and submit it with their resume and cover letter through the NAIT Careers Portal.** **Uniforms**: will be provided by the employer at no cost to the employee **Hours of work**:NPS is a 24/7 operation, and casual employees are expected to be available for a variety of shifts including days, nights, weekends, and on holidays. Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS). **Remuneration**: $61,451.26 - $ 79,574.82 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
