**About the Role**:
This person provides technical and closure planning expertise as part of the Integrated Closure Planning team in support of developing optimized closure strategies for BHP’s 23 non-producing legacy mine sites in North America.
Main Functions:
- Plan and lead collaborative closure planning workshops involving internal SMEs / stakeholders to clearly articulate the preferred closure strategy for our legacy mine sites.
- Work collaboratively and cross-functionally to update, as required, internal closure management plans for our legacy mine sites.
- Lead assessments for re-evaluation of current closure strategies for legacy sites to identify opportunities for re-purposing (e.g., added social value for local communities).
- Assist other members of the Integrated Closure Planning team with leading directional studies to address uncertainties in current closure strategies or supporting the implementation of new closure strategies.
- Support site operations / regional managers as required to address risks (threats and opportunities) and uncertainties associated with long-term closure of our legacy sites.
- Support site operations to convey closure strategies to external stakeholders during planned stakeholder engagements or consultations.
- Lead closure risk assessments and development of closure key risk indicators (KRIs) in line with BHP standards for risk assessments.
- Compile data / information required by Legacy Assets long-range planners to update closure cost estimates for Life of Assets (LoA) or provision updates.
**About You**:
- Tertiary qualification - Bachelor of Science or Engineering in relevant discipline.
- Experience in mining industry with minimum 5 years in closure / reclamation fields.
