**An exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge construction projects, planning and implementation in collaboration with TNG and the six Tŝilhqot’in communities.**
The Tsilhqot’in Nation is a world leader in advancing Indigenous rights and title, as demonstrated by the landmark Aboriginal Title Declaration from the Supreme Court of Canada in 2014. The Nation is currently implementing a groundbreaking tripartite framework agreement (Gwets’en Nilt’i Pathway Agreement) with the goal over the next 5 years of transforming the fundamental relationships between the Tsilhqot’in Nation and the Federal and Provincial Crown governments.
The **Construction Foreman/Forewoman **will typically work year round and will lead and work alongside construction crews to provide on-site coordination of staff, subcontractors, materials and equipment for all phases of residential, commercial and agricultural construction projects, with support from the Project Managers and Construction General Manager. The **Construction Foreman/Forewoman **is responsible for scheduling, inspections, quality control, adhering to budgets and job safety as per WorkSafeBC regulations. A combination of practical and technical education and experience in Housing & Infrastructure combined with cultural awareness and sensitivity is required. This is not an entry level position and reports to the Construction General Manager.
**Essential Functions/Main Responsibilities (summary)**:
- Work with Project Manager to schedule subcontractors, consultants, and vendors in critical path to ensure timely completion of projects;
- Perform construction duties and coach crew members where needed to increase their construction knowledge and quality of work;
- Motivate crew members, resolve conflict and mediate on site disputes as required
- Perform quality control duties and responsibilities for the work being performed on assigned projects and safety oversite for sub tier employees;
- Communicate with project team regarding change orders, scope creep, critical path issues etc.;
- Ensure that subcontractors are complying with their contracted scope of work;
- Work with Project Manager to coordinate required inspections;
- Identify subcontractor non-compliance with safety, health, and environmental quality standards;
- Maintain a daily written log of activities on the jobsite;
- Ensure subcontractors have corrected all deficiencies identified by project team;
- Preside over regularly scheduled site meetings designed to coordinate work;
- Ensure that the job sites are always kept in a clean and organized manner;
- Update construction team on progress and completion schedule;
- Work with Project Manager to do take offs, order materials as required and to confirm quality and quantity of orders received;
- Perform Toolbox meetings.
**Secondary Functions (summary)**:
- Identify areas of work that are outside of subcontracted scope;
- Preside at pre-construction meeting with each subcontractor and construction team;
- Assist in hiring sub-tier employees.
**Qualifications and Professional Competencies**:
- Post secondary education related to construction supplemented by appropriate training and experience in a leadership role in addition to 5 years related experience in the construction industry **or the right combination of experience and education;**:
- Red Seal Journeyman Carpenter certification or at least 3rd year certification would be a major asset/requirement;
- Experience with ICFs an asset;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Ability to read and interpret building drawings, spec sheets, shop drawings, building codes (including BC Energy Step Code) and BC Worksafe regulations;
- Excellent communication skills including verbal and written form are essential;
- Strong initiative, excellent professional judgement and commitment to success;
- High level of professionalism and demonstrated ability to handle confidential information accordingly is crucial;
- Excellent reporting and problem-solving skills;
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, ability and willingness to travel to remote communities and when required (may be required to live on site during the project for our more remote communities);
- First Aid Certificate an asset.
