Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced **Bookkeeper** with proven expertise in the trucking and transportation industry to join our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented professional who understands the unique financial complexities of freight operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate financial records for fleet operations and freight transactions
- Process accounts payable/receivable, including fuel cards, permits, and vendor payments
- Manage driver settlements, payroll, and expense reimbursements
- Track equipment depreciation, maintenance costs, and regulatory compliance expenses
- Prepare monthly financial statements and cost-per-mile analyses
- Reconcile bank statements and maintain cash flow projections
- Assist with year-end tax preparation and regulatory audit support
- Handle GST/HST reporting and CRA compliance requirements
Required Qualifications
- **Minimum 3+ years of bookkeeping experience specifically in the trucking/transportation industry**:
- Thorough understanding of trucking operations, including freight billing, fuel surcharges, and detention pay
- Experience with Canadian trucking regulations and provincial fuel tax requirements
- Proficiency in trucking-specific software (TMS systems preferred)
- Strong knowledge of QuickBooks or similar accounting software
- High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's degree in Accounting preferred
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Knowledge of Canadian tax regulations and payroll requirements
