Youth Support Worker

**_Position Description: _**

Integra Support Services is a dynamic and expanding social service agency on Vancouver Island. We offer a broad range of services, supports and opportunities to adults and children who live with diverse abilities and intellectual challenges. Our focus is person specific and centered.

As a Youth Support Worker, you will follow the direction of the Program Coordinator, function as part of a team to provide for the daily living needs of individuals in the community and contribute to all operational aspects of the program as defined in the Job Description.

**Schedule**:
**Sunday**: 8:00am - 2:00pm (6 hours), **Monday**:Off, **Tuesday**: Off, **Wednesday**: 7:00am - 3:00pm (8 hours), **Thursday**: 7:00am - 3:00pm (8 hours), **Friday**: 8:00am - 1:00pm (5 hours), **Saturday**: 8:00am - 2:00pm (6 hours), **Total = 34 hours**

**_Qualifications: _**
- Grade 12 required; Certificate, diploma, degree or attending education in **Child and Youth Care, Counseling, Social Work, or Community Social Services - Mental Health (or related)**:

- Preferably 1 year experience in child and youth care, and/or a combination of relevant education and experience working with youth or individuals that are at-risk or have developmental delays and special needs
- **Experience with FASD, ADHD, OCD, autism spectrum, aggressive, challenging, and self-harming behaviour**
- Experience working with at-risk youth and/or people who have experienced trauma, exhibit extreme behavior and self-harm behaviour an asset
- BC Criminal Records Review Program Clearance (Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General; Ministry of Children and Family Development)
- First Aid Certification (minimum Emergency First Aid with CPR Level C)
- Medical certificate confirming physical, mental and emotional suitability necessary for position
- TB Test
- A valid BC Driver’s Licence
- Use of personal vehicle required (vehicle insurance with $2 million liability coverage)
- Clear current Driver’s Abstract
- NVCI or SIVA training an asset

**_Skills: _**
- Understanding of & Willingness to commit to Essence of Life, Personal Value Statements, Guiding Principles, Living Culture of the Home and Moral Leadership
- Understanding of prominent diagnosis with youth in care such as FASD, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, ODD, PTSD, Complex Trauma, Anxiety
- Understanding of trauma informed theory practice and creating a therapeutic environment
- Well established understanding of child and youth development
- Established practice involving families, the foster care system, community, intervention programs, the Ministry of Children and Families and other systems in service planning with youth and families
- Established practice in maintaining appropriate and confidential boundaries and other basic professional ethics with supported individuals while having excellent listening skills and empathy

**_Abilities: _**
- Ability to accompany youth in care on day excursions into the community
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs and participate in activities such as swimming, hiking, and biking
- Ability to work with individuals specific to this position
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to follow protocols, policies and procedures
- Ability to stay calm and focused in a stressful situation
- Ability to promote positive behavioural intervention strategies
- Ability to recognize a potential crisis/emergency situation, analyze the situation accurately, and develop strategies to deal with the situation
