Simulation Technician

**Simulation Technician**:
**Primary Purpose**: To work as an independent interdisciplinary team member who will support the implementation of simulated learning experiences for the University of Saskatchewan Health Science students in the Clinical Learning Resource Centre (CLRC). This position will be integral to maintaining the clinical learning areas as part of a high caliber service unit for the Health Science colleges and programs. There is a significant amount of contact with visitors, students, faculty, and standardized patients, thus requiring excellent customer service skills. The technician will work collaboratively with the faculty and external partners to keep the CLRC lab running smoothly and efficiently on a day-to-day basis and to meet the educational needs of various Health Science programs and external partners.

**Nature of Work**: Reporting to the CLRC Manager, the Simulation Technician (ST) will support the day-to day operational duties in the Clinical Learning Resource Centre (CLRC). The ST will function as part of the clinical learning provider team, working closely with CLRC staff, various Health Science college faculty, students, simulated patients, and visitors in a simulated healthcare environment. The ST will work both independently and collaboratively with clinical faculty and other CLRC staff in the planning, coordination and implementation of clinical labs. The ST will be responsible for routine maintenance of equipment, unit maintenance and inventory control.
- You will be required to be on your feet for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to sit at a desk for computer-based tasks and paperwork.
- You will be required to lift and move equipment, trainers and manikins. This equipment can weigh up to 25 lbs., with heavier lifts handled in teams.
- You will be required to complete TLR lifting and moving training and follow those safe lifting principles.

This position requires excellent time management skills, attention to detail, and independent problem-solving skills for multiple course plans, complex setups and use of equipment. This position may experience repeated interruptions, changing priorities, strict deadlines, complex problem solving, and moderate/heavy physical labor. The hours of work will vary and could require some evening and weekend shifts.

- ** **Work collaboratively with CLRC managers, CLRC staff and faculty in planning and ensuring sessions run smoothly and effectively.
- Work independently to coordinate the operational aspects of assigned labs/courses: setup, supply and equipment support, faculty support, and cleanup.
- Work with faculty to problem solve issues and ensure educational objectives are being met.
- Ensure all databases, course metrics and SOPs are kept up to date.
- Assist with consumable inventory control and supply ordering as needed.
- Provide operational services as needed to other CLRC teams, such as: operation of computerized manikins during simple scenarios, setup, cleanup and simple problem solving.
- Assist with equipment management: manikins’ and task trainers’ routine maintenance according to established policies and procedures. Ensure broken equipment is identified and repaired in alignment with CLRC policies.
- Assist with management of equipment loan program.
- Maintain the CLRC clinic rooms, procedure rooms, and simulation suites as clean and uncluttered hospital/clinic environments on a regular basis.
- Room maintenance: maintain checklist of all supplies and equipment required in each room; conduct daily restocking of rooms, code carts, med carts, and procedure carts to par levels; maintain appropriate levels of consumable supplies.
- Assist with orientation and training of new team members**.**:

- ** **Help problem solve by offering input on scheduling, space management, equipment and supplies when conflicts are identified and help coordinate solutions independently or in collaboration with the CLRC staff and managers.
- Provide excellent customer service to the faculty, instructors, students, clients and visitors.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding job assignments, courses, student activities, and other issues that arise.
- Assist the CLRC manager with projects as assigned.

**Education**: Completion of Grade 12 required, completion of post-secondary education in a related field would be an asset. A combination of education and experience will be considered.

**Experience**: Medical office assistant or bed-side clinical health care experience is an asset.
