Delivery Driver

We currently have a Full time opening for a Delivery Driver.

You will need at least three years of experience in the last five years driving heavy trucks with a GVWR between 10000kg and 14000kg. You will need a clean drivers abstract. Class 3 license not necessary but would be considered an asset. Class 5 is required.

This position requires the willingness to work outside, the ability to work independently and possess the stamina to perform physically demanding tasks. Reporting to the Yard Supervisor, the Delivery Driver will be self-motivated, results-oriented and committed to working in a safe manner. You will be entrusted to work independently as a representative of Home Hardware when making deliveries in the community, to provide top quality service to our customers, and to operate various power equipment and tools.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**

Serve customers in yard in a friendly, professional manner by offering advice, information, and help in gathering and loading orders.

Operate freight handling equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, lumber carts, etc) in a safe manner, in accordance to provincial and federal safety legislation.

Operate 5 ton Delivery Trucks or company vehicles to pickup & deliver products and supplies to customers, vendors, jobsites, or other corporate locations. Will also be required to make pickups at suppliers locations in Halifax area.

Must move heavy merchandise to or from company vehicles in the pickup & delivery process. Secure loads safely for transportation.

Verify administrative paperwork

Perform all assigned tasks safely and with sufficient speed and accuracy to avoid adverse impact on the highest level of customer service.

Maintain the lumberyard and vehicles in a clean, professional way.

Follow all safety precautions when operating company vehicles and loading or unloading freight.

Follow all delivery and receiving procedures and company policies as determined by management.

Follow proper documentation procedures for any merchandise that is to be returned or refused

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Must be able to communicate effectively with customers, management and other employees
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings and holidays.
- Must safely operate loading, unloading, and transfer equipment (forklifts, pushcarts, computer, etc.), as well as company vehicles.
- Experience operating a forklift is a definite asset.
- Must have a clean drivers abstract. A Class 5 license is required. Must maintain a good driving record and lawfully operate all company vehicles used to make deliveries.
- Must be able to move heavy and bulky merchandise for customers and for sales personnel.
