About You / What We Are Looking For

The City of Coquitlam is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Parks Division as Regular Full-Time Utility Worker. As a valued team member, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the maintenance, repair, and enhancement of our city's beautiful parks and recreational spaces.

Reporting to our Parks Infrastructure Asset Coordinator, you will perform semi-skilled park facilities maintenance, repair, and construction work in this unionized position. This is a CUPE Local 386 position.

As a Utility Worker - Parks, you will be responsible for various tasks related to the maintenance, repair, and installation of park features, including but not limited to:

- Playground equipment
- Park furniture
- Volleyball, tennis, basketball & ball hockey courts
- Fencing
- Pathways and related paved areas

Other duties include:

- Keeping routine work records through a mobile device
- Undertaking special projects and assignments as required
- Ensuring parks are clean and safe for public use, including waste management
- Providing event support

Minimum Qualifications

To be successful in this role, applicants should possess the following:

- Familiarity with methods, materials, equipment, and tools used in routine park maintenance tasks
- Ability to perform a variety of park maintenance tasks and repair work with mínimal supervision
- Capability to perform waste management duties
- Completion of Grade 10
- BC Recreation and Parks Association Playground Safety Awareness Course (Applicants without this course must complete it within the probationary period at their own time and cost)
- Basic carpentry and/or landscaping courses, some experience in general parks maintenance and landscape work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- Availability for weekend work
- Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia with a satisfactory driving record

- Canadian Playground Safety Institute Playground Inspector Certification

This CUPE position has an hourly rate of $36.08 (2025 rates). The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.
