Your Opportunity:
Unit 3-4 at Alberta Hospital is a 19 bed Subacute Adult Forensic unit that provides mental health assessment, treatment and support to vulnerable individuals with significant mental health and addiction issues, who have a legal disposition. Reporting to the Unit Manager, the Psychiatric Aide is responsible for meeting the personal care needs and comforts of the patients. Duties will include but not limited to assisting with the provision of routine nursing care to meet patient’s hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs. Description:
As a Psychiatric Aide, you will work as a collaborative member of the multi-disciplinary team to meet the personal care needs and comforts of patients in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs as well as assist with organized activities or programs. In this position, you will observe and report on a patient¿s mood, health, well-being, maintain effective communication with patients and health professionals, assist with the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors as well as assist in the general support of the work area.

**Required Qualifications**:
Completion of Grade 12. A combination of education and experience satisfactory to the employer will also be considered.
**Additional Required Qualifications**:
Recent experience in Addictions and Mental Health setting. Non-violent crisis intervention training or ability to obtain same within the first 3 months of hire. Health Care Aide certificate. Sound observation and strong verbal and written communication skills. Able to work effectively as a team and problem solve using critical thinking. Ability to adapt quickly to changes in daily schedule and patient acuity changes. Working knowledge of patient and family centered principles. Psychiatric Nursing students who have completed a minimum of 100 hours of clinical rotation will be considered.
**Preferred Qualifications**:
Recent Acute Mental Health/Forensic/Corrections experience. Health Care Aide certificate and Mental Health First Aid certificate. Working knowledge of the CoAct model of care. Working knowledge of trauma informed care. Working knowledge of addictions/substance use disorders.
