Youth Worker

The EmpowOur Youth Engagement Project (EYE), supports participants through various service projects and introduces them to diverse volunteer opportunities in the community. We provide training (for the activities that they can volunteer in within the community) in technology, research, event planning, Civics as well arts and crafts if needed.

We assists in the co-creation of service projects that responds to identified community needs.

Our objectives are as follow:

- Develop Allies for women to succeed
- Assist Women in having the resources and skilled to be more empowered
- Increase volunteerism and civic engagement
- Improve social outcomes for youth, especially women in our community
- Increase civic engagements

Our group is devoted to the success of our participants, we are singularly focused in ensuring that our youth have the necessary opportunities to go beyond just thriving. We are driven, pro-active and creative. We are not typical. We can meet at 11pm and work all weekend for an entire month. Each of us contributes skills, talents and the ability to motivate our participants to go beyond. This group is very serious about a safe space for LGBTQ2+ youth. We accept, welcome.
- For equity purposes - We will accept post-secondary degree or diploma in fields related to the skills necessary for this role or 2 years of working directly with youth and 4 years of volunteer experience
- Previous experience in working directly with youth including Newcomers, Racialized Youth, Youth from diverse social economic backgrounds Visible Minorities and must be **ACCEPTING** & **WELCOMING **of youth members of the LGBTQ2+ community
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced environment that meets outcomes while juggling multiple priorities to get results
- Experience in delivering workshops in life-skills, employability/essential skills, and leadership development
- Experience in delivering counselling in academic and career pathways is an asset, especially in areas of healthcare, law, engineering, environmental & entrepreneurship
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability in providing coaching to youth facing barriers and motivating youth to develop a plan of action
- Ability to organize and lead group workshops and co-ordinate activities
- Successfully proven ability to develop virtual events where public is invited
- Experienced in event planning, marketing, volunteer coordination and onsite management
- Experienced in developing connections and relationships with businesses and other not-for-profit organizations
- Must have experience communicating with government bodies
- Must know regulations relating to community activism and civic actions
- **Must be very knowledgeable of Canadian Civics **- including knowing the workings of the 3 levels of Government - must be able to comfortably teach each level.
- Strong marketing, communications and organizational skills
- Must be skilled in developing content and marketing for social media and must understand how to use brand policies when creating content for distribution
- Strong understanding of Equity and Diversity issues and their implications in the workplace and academic environments
- Demonstrated knowledge of community resources for youth in Peel and surrounding regions
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends and must be available at short notice.
- Cultural sensitivity knowledge is an asset

IN SUMMARY

Our group is results driven, open to challenge, creative and dedicated to the advancement of young women in our community. The program is developed to empower women by giving them the resources and opportunities to do so. The program believes that allyship is an important factor in the success of women. We do not believe in male-bashing as our female participants does not need to make someone feel less to be more. Our group is dynamic, active and driven. We work weekends and evenings. We manage unreal expectations and yet somehow make things work. We are LGBTQ2+ friendly and we intend to give this community a safe space to be themselves within EYE.
