Camp Nursing Director

**Organization Overview**

The Mel Jr. & Marty Zajac Foundation is a not-for-profit organization, located in Vancouver, BC, whose mandate is to support children, seniors and those with special needs through innovative community projects focused on developing lifelong skills and independence. Our current major focus is **Zajac Ranch for Children**, a camp in Mission, BC, for children with chronic, life-threatening and/or debilitating conditions.

Located on the shores of Stave Lake in Mission, BC, just one hour east of Vancouver, Zajac Ranch for Children is situated on over 40 acres of pristine forested land. During the summer months, Zajac Ranch provides camps for children and young adults with chronic, life-threatening and/or debilitating conditions. In the off-season, Zajac Ranch welcomes school groups and private rentals. Revenue raised from site rentals goes to supporting Zajac Ranch for Children medical summer camps.

**Opportunity**:
**Responsibilities**:

- Responsible for supporting the good health of the campers, staff and volunteers at Zajac Ranch for Children.
- In conjunction with the Camp Director, is responsible for optimal operation and supervision of the Medical Centre, equipment, medications and health/wellness supplies for the ranch. Maintain inventory lists and update before and after summer program.
- Prepare and distribute medical equipment and supplies to program areas and cabins on and off season (eg. First aid kits).
- Together with leadership team, help recruit, interview, select, orient, and evaluate volunteer medical staff. Schedule 24 hour medical/nursing coverage during camp programs. Assist in the recruitment of a full-time Camp Nurse for summer camp effective mid-June to the end of August.
- Provide medical orientation during staff and volunteer training and orientation.
- Works with Camp Chef to plan appropriate nutritional menus which address the needs of each medical group.
- Working with the Camp Chef they plan for any individual specific requirements for example allergies or special needs.
- The Nursing Director during camp is responsible for the camper arrival procedures, the medical services of the camp and operation of the 24-hour Medical Centre. At the close of each camp the Nursing Director is responsible for the camper departure, review of any medical and health incidents, and restocking of the Medical Centre.
- Assure medications and procedures are administered properly and appropriate records are maintained. Such documents (logbook, health department report, incident reports) are to be recorded and forwarded appropriately.

**Qualifications**:

- BSN required
- Registered Nursing License
- Valid CPR certification; adult and child (ARC or AHA); PALS preferred
- Pediatric Hematology/Oncology nursing experience preferred
- Pediatric clinical experience required at least 3 years preferred
- Proficiency in procedures involving intravenous access and infusion

$45.00 per hour
