The Department of Natural Resources and Indigenous Futures is seeking strong, highly-motivated individuals to fill the role of Patrol Captain. Draw from your experience in law enforcement and assist in the day-to day operations in Conservation Officers HQ.
Conditions of Employment:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must be eligible for appointment as a Patrol Officer.
- Must successfully complete the mandatory Patrol Officer Orientation Course, which includes Subject Control training.
- Must possess and maintain current Standard First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR Level C) certificates or an approved equivalent by date of employment.
- Must possess and maintain a valid, full stage Manitoba Class 4 driver's licence or an equivalent out of province licence by date acceptable to the employer.
- Must be willing and able to work irregular shifts: including evenings, weekends and overtime.
- Must be willing and able to travel including overnight stays for extended periods of time.
- Must be physically able to perform the duties of the position including: working in various adverse weather conditions, walking over rough terrain and lifting weights of up to 50 lbs.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Experience in law enforcement and legislative compliance as Patrol Captain or Patrol Officer
- Ability to make decisions and problem solve.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Ability to work effectively under stress.
- Ability to work independently under limited supervision, with good time management skills.
- Ability to coach, train, and mentor others on the job in basic skills and best practices.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Strong written communication skills.
Desired:
- Experience supervising employees.
- Knowledge and understanding of Conservation Officer Service operational directives, policies, and procedures.
**Duties**:
Patrol Captain provides support in delivering and organizing the provincial recruitment outreach program working with high schools, colleges, universities along with Indigenous and resource based user groups. This includes operating the branch outreach trailer at organized events. Provides support with the organizing of the recruitment hiring programs for Conservation Officers, Seasonal Conservation Officers, Patrol Captains, and Patrol Officers. Provides support to the enforcement service section by, organizing suspensions and restitution correspondents, vehicle transport, maintaining records, and managing other logístical tasks. Assists officers in the field by enforcing laws, investigating violations, supporting public safety and education, preparing reports, and responding to emergencies as required.
