Position Summary

The Fisheries Manager is responsible for leading the planning, coordination, and implementation of fisheries management under the Maa-nulth Final Agreement. This includes development and oversight of operational plans for treaty-based fisheries, conservation, data management, community communications, and regulatory compliance. The role also supports fisheries specific negotiations, reporting, and coordination with the federal and provincial governments.

Primary/Core Responsibilities

Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ Government policies, standards, practices and procedures, as directed by the Director of nism̓aakukqinʔaała (always our land) - Lands and Resources.

**Program Management**

Supports the development, implementation and monitoring of the Department of nism̓aakukqinʔaała (always our land) - Lands and Resources strategic and operating plans, in all areas relevant to fisheries.
- Anticipates short and long-term fisheries sustainability measures, identifying concerns and recommendations on management solutions within the Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ Treaty Settlement Lands and Traditional Territories.
- Contributes to an annual plan for Food, Social and Ceremonial Harvest Programming, including a five-year strategic plan for the FSC Food Fish Program.
- Manages the FSC Harvest including annual Maa-nulth Fisheries Operational Guidelines, species Integrated Fish Management Plan (IFMP) review, and annual allocations designated within the Maa-nulth Fishing Plan, as well as within the Maa-nulth Harvest Wildlife Plan.
- Establishes and implements procedures for Food Fish Program contracts and programming which are compliant with Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ legislation and best management practices.
- Ensures that Lands and Resources Fisheries and Harvesting Programs meet the needs of the Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ Government and the Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ citizens in accordance with the Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ Constitution and relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Ensures that all fisheries and harvesting operations and programming are managed and administered in accordance with Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ Government Acts and Policy, and the regulations and requirements of relevant external organizations and agencies.
- Ensures that all fisheries and harvesting-related program reporting is prepared and submitted in accordance with external reporting requirements.
- Provides leadership and support to fisheries and harvesting-related committees.
- Works with all others Lands and Resources Department staff, to undertake work that is necessary to any programming, regulatory or reporting needs, relevant to fisheries and harvesting.
- In accordance with the Fisheries Regulation, the Wildlife and the Resources Harvesting Act, is responsible for implementing legislation that applies to various fisheries and wildlife-related resource harvesting; and establishing and implementing administrative policies and procedures to support this work.
- In collaboration with the Director of nism̓aakukqinʔaała evaluates the overall effectiveness of Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ Fisheries and Harvesting programs to achieve Department goals, objectives and work plans.

**Community & Public Relations**
- Contributes to the development of a communications and public relations strategy as it applies to fisheries and harvesting operations and programming.
- Attends all meetings, as required by the Director of nism̓aakukqinʔaała relevant to program operations, including the Maa-nulth Fisheries Committee, Joint Fisheries Committee, and Maa-nulth Wildlife Council.

**Administration**
- Prepares and presents reports as required, to the Director of nism̓aakukqinʔaała (always our land) - Lands and Resources.
- Provides updates to the Director of nism̓aakukqinʔaała for biweekly executive meetings.
- Provides support in the development of proposals for funding in consultation with the Director of nism̓aakukqinʔaała.
- Provides financial reports to funding organizations as required and approved.
- Oversees and monitors the administration of funding agreements and contracts, as required, alongside the Department of Finance.
- Provides analytical support to other Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ Government Departments with matters relating to fisheries and harevesting or the FSC Fish Program.
- Acquires and maintains relevant and current knowledge and expertise to guide, advise, and implement fisheries and harvesting initiatives of the Department of Lands and Resources.
- Keeps the Director of nism̓aakukqinʔaała informed of sensitive and important issues and information that may affect the operation of the Lands and Resource Department’s fisheries and harvesting management, including the FSC Fish Program.

Performs other duties and responsibilities as necessary in the performance of the position, and as assigned by the Director of nism̓aakukqinʔaała.

**Qualifications**:
Training, Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field (Natural Resource Science, Environmen
