**JOB TITLE**:Safety Advisor - Safety Watch**

**Key Responsibility Areas**:
**Safety Watch**
- Constantly observe workers and encourage full compliance with safety requirements: noting good practices, pointing out gaps in compliance and reporting both to operating managers and the Manager, Safety.
- Intervene when deficiencies in safety practices are observed or reported, ensuring work proceeds correctly and communicating the safety, policy and legal rationale for safety requirements.
- Maintain a constant watch for developing hazards, poor housekeeping and other dangerous practices, and inappropriate workplace behaviours, and recommend and implement corrective measures.
- Ensure documented Hazard Assessments are complete and up to date. Assist with Hazard assessments for non-routine tasks.
- Assist employees with concerns including health, safety, ergonomics, and workplace violence including bullying and harassment.
- Assist as required in preparation of incident reports and completion of investigations.
- Assist in regular facility inspections.
- Assist in preparing reports on safety performance.

**Safety Education**
- Help to prepare and maintain manuals, orientation materials and other safety information.
- Assist Safety Manager in assuring all Company practices conform to changes in legislation and regulation.
- Maintain an educational approach to ensuring employees are compliant with the high standards of Tornado’s Health and Safety policies and the Alberta OH&S Act.
- Suggest and implement posters and other information campaigns.
- Assist in orientation of new employees.
- Assist with safety training on equipment and tools.
- Work with Joint Health and Safety Committee as required.
- Model consistent compliance with all safety requirements, including use of required hazard controls, and correct use of PPE.

**Safety Administration**
- Document safety policy and initiatives, specialized guidelines for emerging health and safety issues, committee minutes, and maintains files as required.
- Perform WCB Clearance checks on contracted Companies when required.

**Projects / Other Assignments**
- Work on related projects or initiatives as assigned.

Qualifications:
**Education**
- Completion of High School.
- Coursework and certification in Safety is preferred.
- Diploma in a related area is an asset.

**Experience**
- 1-3 years’ experience in an occupational health safety function, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity of the Alberta OH&S Act (Regulations and Codes)
- Familiarity of the Alberta WCB Act (Policies and Procedures)

**Working Conditions**:

- Some work is performed in an office environment; attention to good ergonomic practices is required and guidance will be provided.
- Other duties will be performed in a manufacturing environment which can be noisy and present hazards, and which will require Personal Protective Equipment. Consistent use of all required PPE is a requirement of this position.
- Working in all weather conditions
- Employees must provide CSA-certified work boots and clothing appropriate to conditions; all other PPE will be provided.
