** Data Governance Consultant **with our client for a
**6-month contract **opportunity.
**Role Description**:
Data Governance Consultant will lead key projects to ensure business priorities are met. Working as a collaborative and agile leader, the Data Governance Consultant will have the ability to provide leadership to teams without having direct reports, work on multiple initiatives simultaneously, and produce deliverables within deadlines.
**Responsibilities**:
Work closely with a steering committee and with multiple working teams to lead the DGF-related tasks, including:
- Develop a Data Governance Framework
- Coordinate and conduct discussions to inform the development of a strategy and a work plan for developing a DGF tailored specifically to our client.
- Develop a strategy outlining the business goals which will frame the DGF contents to be incorporated, reflecting data, technology, processes, roles, etc.
- Working closely with the steering committee to determine the best approach, style, and content of the DGF. Content should include but not be limited to the following:
- State mission and principles.
- Identify the purpose and set goals/objectives.
- Establish, explain, and detail the data-related processes, decision-making functions, best practices, and policies.
- Assign roles, operational oversight, and responsibilities.
- Show alignment to existing policies and controls and if required, create linkages.
- Support continuous improvement by monitoring progress and measuring success.
- Working closely with the team, presenting options, draft DGF, soliciting feedback, incorporating suggestions, and finalize DGF.
- Provide advice on an implementation approach and how to influence compliance.
- Work closely with teams to develop a detailed transitional and operational plan, ensuring roles and responsibilities are clearly documented, communicated, and supported.
- Provide recommendations to continuously evolve the DGF to ensure alignment with priorities and organizational functions. Create performance measures and a dashboard that monitors the DGF status.
- Plan and support the dissemination and rollout.
**Activities and Project Work that support data governance solutions**:
- Assessment of the current state, identifying operational challenges and concerns, gaps, and weaknesses requiring organizational change. Using a risk mitigation and phased approach, prioritize activities and project work. Create a roadmap of steps/phases/work to achieve an ideal future state.
- Oversee project work including development of agendas, leading work team activities, setting expectations for input, define milestones and goals with timelines.
- Develops materials and implementation plans for policies, guidelines, controls, and procedures to achieve standardization of practices across the organization.
- Makes recommendations to build and support a robust data stewardship practice.
- Manage invested parties and executive sponsors' expectations with a clear path forward.
- Consult with working group members and manage competing inputs. Manage issues and escalate to senior management where necessary.
- Respect competing pressures and strategize to maximize the efficiency of project teams.
**Requirements**:
- Minimum 5 years of relevant data governance experience.
- Experience leading a large organization through the establishment of a Data Governance Framework.
- Extensive experience leading and supporting activities related to the establishment and implementation of data governance, such as but not limited to data stewardship; setting guidelines for data sets; data quality management; developing and operationalizing standards, policies, and procedures; establishing a community or practice.
- A recognized degree in a relevant field such as computer systems, data science, analytics, information management or a related field.
- Experience in creating detailed project plans, coordinating teams to optimize staff resources, tracking, and reporting progress, and working collaboratively to resolve issues.
- Demonstrated presentation, negotiation, Influencing, and relationship-building skills.
- Good judgment and the capacity to independently evaluate situations and identify the optimum course of action.
- Results-oriented with strong people and time management skills, highly organized, motivated, and driven to succeed.
- Experience working in the public sector.
