The Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine is recognized for its excellence in basic and clinical research, outstanding diagnostic and clinical medicine, and for its strong undergraduate, postgraduate and graduate education, all of which illustrate the expertise and diversity of our faculty and staff. The Department has a close relationship with the Hamilton Regional Laboratory Medicine Program (HRLMP), one of the largest integrated laboratory medicine programs in the country; its members provide diagnostic and clinical medical services for South Central Ontario.

The Department includes outstanding research groups with expertise in cancer; immunology; molecular virology; respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases; cardiovascular diseases; gene therapy and genetics. Faculty members affiliated with the Department provide significant contributions to health sciences education through participation in the Education Program in Anatomy, the McMaster Surgical Skills Laboratory, Bachelor of Health Sciences (Honours) Program, undergraduate and postgraduate medicine and graduate studies. The Postgraduate Training Program in Laboratory Medicine is one of the best in Canada.

The role of Chair is an opportunity to play a key leadership role in the Faculty of Health Sciences while supporting excellence in academic, research, and clinical interests within the department. The Chair is accountable for the overall administration of the academic department and for the relationship between the Department and the broader academic community. The Chair is expected to inspire excellence in the department by encouraging faculty to reach their full potential.
