Karate Instructor

We are seeking an enthusiastic and reliable **Karate Instructor** to lead a **beginner, recreational karate program** for children ages **5-10**. This role is ideal for an instructor who enjoys working with young students, values safety and structure, and thrives in a friendly, community-focused environment.

This position is currently offered **twice per week**, with opportunities to grow the program over time.

Position Details
- **Contract Type**: Independent Contractor
- **Compensation**: $20-$25 per hour, based on experience
- **Schedule**: Mondays & Wednesdays
- **Class Time**: After school (approx. 3:45-4:00 PM start)
- **Class Length**: 1 hour 15 minutes
- **Location**: In-studio
- **Start Date**: Immediate / January 2026

Program Overview
- Beginner-level, recreational karate program
- Students ages 5-10 years
- Modern studio environment (not a traditional dojo)
- Focus on confidence, coordination, respect, and physical literacy

**Responsibilities**:

- Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate karate classes
- Develop and implement curriculum suitable for beginner students
- Conduct belt testing and student gradings
- Maintain a safe, structured, and positive class environment
- Track attendance and student progress
- Communicate professionally with parents as needed
- Support organization, reporting, and planning for demos and events
- Provide guidance on uniforms and basic equipment
- Participate in trial classes, demonstrations, and promotional events
- Collaborate with studio staff to support program growth

Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience in karate or equivalent martial art (degree to be discussed)
- **Minimum 3 years teaching experience**, preferably with children
- Experience working with children ages 5-10
- Valid **First Aid & CPR certification**:

- **Vulnerable Sector / Background Check** required
- Strong classroom management and safety awareness
- Ability to teach in a recreational, confidence-building format
- Warm, dependable, and professional
- Comfortable teaching in a modern, community-oriented studio
- Strong communicator with both children and parents
- Organized and proactive with planning and reporting
- Interested in growing the program through additional classes, camps, or workshops
- Open to supporting studio marketing through demos and trial classes
