The Portage la Prairie Regional Library provides accessible, innovative library and information services to Portage la Prairie. We are seeking an independent contractor to provide responsible and efficient bookkeeping support for an 18 month contract, 6-12 hours per week.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Canada.
- Proven experience with QuickBooks Desktop.
- Organization, time management and standard office procedures.
- Preparation of financial reports such as balance sheets, cheque lists, and other items.
- Office methods and equipment including computer operations and Microsoft Office software such as Word and Excel.
Competencies, Skills, and Abilities
- Exercise effective judgement and independent decision-making capabilities.
- Data entry, retrieval and keyboarding skills including use of standard office equipment and Windows.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Determine work priorities, work independently in the absence of supervision and follow through on tasks.
- Analyze situations carefully and adopt effective course of action.
- Careful attention to detail and accuracy.
Duties
- Organize and manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, including invoices, credit card payments and other transactions.
- Accurately input all financial information into QuickBooks Desktop.
- Prepare and organize documentation for year-end audit.
- Prepare and ensure accuracy of financial statements.
- Investigating and resolving irregularities or inquires.
Minimum Qualifications
- Over 18 years of age.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficient in QuickBooks Desktop essential.
- Proficient in the use of computers and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Equivalent to completion of high school including or supplemented by specialized administrative or accounting training and/or college level course work.
- Two years of bookkeeping and/or accounting experience.
- Proof of E&O, liability, fidelity, and contents insurance.
