**The Opportunity**

The **Specialist - Hydrogeologist **supports the sites (both operating and closed mining and processing sites) with the design/execution of water management plans at Vale's North Atlantic Operations, focusing on Tailings, Dams and Surface Hydrogeology. This role will assist with hydrologic, hydrogeologic, and hydrogeochemical monitoring, evaluation and modelling supporting NA Operations and Projects. The incumbent will organize, analyze, interpret, and maintain relevant data working closely with the Technical Execution Teams at the Sites. The role will also ensure that health, safety and environmental management standards and legislated requirements are effectively satisfied and will communicate with the appropriate levels within the organization on the status of issues related to this work.

Major responsibilities for the role will include:

- Assisting with the development and advancement of Water Management Plans to ensure that all water-related hazards, including unwanted, excessive accumulations and flows of water in Tailings, Dams and on surface, are adequately addressed to ensure safety and protection of major surface infrastructure.
- Coordinating Hydrology, Hydrogeology and Hydrogeochemical studies to support Site Operations, strategic initiatives, and closure planning.
- Conducting site investigations and develop analytical and numerical models to characterize and evaluate the hydrogeological setting of the Sites.
- Developing and advancing surface hydrological, hydrogeological and hydrogeochemical models for systems affecting the surface mine dewatering system.
- Identifying, evaluating, and responding to water-related risks, opportunities and impacts of mining Operations on hydrologic systems and neighboring environments using a modelling approach to inform the development of mitigation measures to address impacts.
- Developing and advancing water balance/availability models that consider a broad range of operational scenarios and climatic conditions.
- Leading technical investigations of significant incidents to identify root causes and identify corrective actions to prevent re-occurrence.
- Participating in audits and reviews and develop action plans to address recommendations.
- Collaborating with Vale’s Environment and Sustainability teams, the Mine Hydrologist, and other stakeholders on external water governance issues, with governments, local authorities, and other stakeholders, supporting integrated water resource management.

**About You**

Education**:

- Bachelor’s in applied science, or geology, geological or environmental engineering is required.
- P. Eng. Or P. Geo. required.
- Master’s degree preferred.

**Experience**:

- A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in the Hydrogeological field
- Experience in Physical hydrogeology as well as contaminant hydrogeology.

**Skills**:

- Familiarity with ground water chemistry, testing and analysis.
- Experience MODFLOW/FEFLOW, GOLDSIM or other ground water modeling software.
- Familiarity with groundwater database management.
- Knowledge and understanding of environmental regulations, and relations.
- Strong influencing and collaboration competency
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and familiar with spreadsheet manipulation in Excel.
