**CROSSING GUARD**
**CITY OF SARNIA**

Position Type: Part Time
Hours of Work: Up to 25 hours per week

**Overview**:
The primary responsibility of the Crossing Guard is to provide for the safe movement of students
on their way to and from school and crossing designated intersections. Crossing guards assist
students crossing public roadways and intersections by observing gaps in the traffic and leading
the students across the roadway or intersection. The Crossing Guard work at specific time
periods per day (morning starts at 7:45/8:00, lunch time and afternoon shift are 2:45/3:00),
Monday through Friday, during the public school year (September through June) when school is
open.

**Core Duties and Responsibilities**:
➔ Stand and perform crossing guard duties at your designated corner for the
designated duration of the duty times without relief.
➔ Must dress for specific weather requirements, wear company provided vest and
use company approved signs to complete duties.
➔ Provide service in all reasonably expected weather conditions.
➔ Follow required safe crossing procedures to ensure school students and the
general public will safely cross the walkway.
➔ Clock On and Off for your designated duty with designated Regal procedures.
➔ Report any issues or instances to designated Supervisor or Regal Management

**Expectations for Experience and Qualifications for role**:
➔ Provide proof of ability to work in Canada.
➔ Provide valid photo identification.
➔ Able and willing to obtain Vulnerable Sector Check through police service or other
approved designated options at the employee’s expense, prior to starting employment.

➔ Must have strong proficiency in verbal and written communication in English
➔ Ability and willingness to stand without any assistance for durations of up to 2 hours
without breaks
➔ Ability to repeatedly lift a sign above the shoulder level for the duration of the duty times
per day.
➔ Must be willing to work all days of the week and for all shift requirements (Days to
afternoons)
➔ Previous Crossing Guard experience or knowledge of the City of Sarnia will be an asset.

Pay rate will be $19 an hour
