**Your role**

Production and Resources is looking for an experienced Switcher/Director to support our control room operations. Your role includes the responsibility of reporting directly to the Technical Producer responsible for these departments.

Your schedule will primarily consist of weekday shifts; however, you may be called upon to work overtime and/or weekends.

**More specifically**:
You will be called upon to program and code new workflows while using the Ross Overdrive system. Other responsibilities include working with other control room teams and collaborating with our technical support teams to ensure that issues identified from the daily production reports are corrected. You may also be called upon to backfill in different control rooms, so a sound understanding of various Ottawa newscasts are an asset.

You will work alongside our control room teams to address any technical issues or questions, all while maintaining a standard of excellence for all broadcasts. On the technical side, you are responsible for checking program requirements and quality. You also program and operate the automated presentation switching systems; operate peripherals such as the character generator, audio console, CCUs, robotics, and intercom; and must demonstrate sound editorial judgment throughout the production process.

You have a passion for directing, and you love multitasking in a live environment. You direct the host during production to ensure that a quality product goes to air. You make a number of technical and editorial decisions before and during the program, ensuring consistency with our brand image. You’re a sociable person, which makes it easier for you to integrate into production and editorial teams and play a key role in production duties for program preparation.

Work is governed by CBC/Radio-Canada journalistic and/or programming policies, standards and practices, but there is latitude for creativity, initiative and independent judgment.

**Key Tasks**:

- Participates in the conception, planning and development of the program or segment being directed. This includes overseeing Overdrive version upgrades, while mitigating any potential impacts to production.
- Responsible for daily follow-ups related to the Production Reports.
- Conceives, plans, develops and directs the presentation elements and program style, ensuring consistency with the program plan and concept. In the case of daily programs, monitors the progress of the daily program plan, in particular the development of production elements.
- Consults with other specialists involved in the program project to ensure aural and visual unity, and optimum creative and technical quality throughout the production.
- Switches and mixes audio and video elements involved in the production.
- Devises audio and/or visual effects to produce results consistent with the creative and technical objectives of the program.
- Provides performers and crew with feedback to assist in their performance.- A combination of education and experience equivalent to a college diploma in production and post-production techniques, plus five (5) years of practical and relevant experience.-
- Sound knowledge of the Ross Overdrive video switching systems.-
- Two (2) or more years’ experience performing technical production and/or directing duties.-
- Ability to work well under pressure for extended periods with multiple people during live broadcasts.-
- Editorial judgment, leadership and decision-making skills.-
- Self-motivated and self-directed.-
- Interpersonal and communication skills.-
- Very good knowledge of the French and English language, written and spoken.-
- TV production experience in a news environment is an asset.-
- Ability to multitask.-
- Comfortable with technology.-
