Station Maintenance Summer Student

**About this role**:
You will be part of a dynamic team working to gain practical and professional experience in our Station Maintenance department. As a Station Maintenance Summer Student, you will support the Stations team with a variety of projects. At Burlington Hydro Inc. As a Station Maintenance Summer Student, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute as part of our team, work alongside and learn from experienced and talented professionals. This position reports to the Supervisor of Stations and requires you to be onsite at our 1340 Brant Street location.
**Core responsibilities**:
- Work in compliance with all safe work practices, rules and regulations as set out by Burlington Hydro Inc., the MOL and IHSA
- Perform duties in a safe and efficient manner
- Learn to operate equipment and tools used in the day-to-day work
- Learn how to test and maintain transformers; mechanical and/or electrical testing/troubleshooting of breakers, protective devices, batteries and chargers
- Learn how to install and maintain AC and DC substation service systems; locate underground cables; test and fault locate on underground distribution plant
- Assist with drawings and diagrams using AutoCAD; assist in collecting data and maintenance records Perform other duties that may be assigned from time to time
**What we are looking for**:
- 2nd or 3rd year Engineering student enrolled and in good standing in the Technologist program
- Ability to follow work orders, specifications, standards, blueprints/drawings, and instructions
- Knowledge of ethernet and communication networks is an asset
- Knowledge of programming and using database programs is an asset
- Possess and maintain a valid Ontario Drivers’ License with a clean abstract
- Knowledge of AutoCAD is an asset Current First Aid / CPR / AED certification is an asset
**What you will need to be successful**:
- Keen interest in the Electrician discipline, including underground distribution system
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including reading comprehension; as well as excellent mathematical skills Excellent interpersonal and customer relations skills; a good work ethic with a positive approach to work and co-workers; energetic and motivated with an excellent attendance record
