Clinical Operations Lead

Reporting jointly to the Clinical Managers for Palliative Care (primary) and Transitional Care at Providence Healthcare (PHC), the Clinical Operations Lead (COL) plays a vital leadership role in the day-to-day management of unit operations. This position is essential in ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care by overseeing both clinical and administrative functions to support efficient and effective departmental performance.

As an integral member of the leadership team, the COL is responsible for direct supervision of staff and supports human resources activities including performance appraisals, competency assessments, staff development, and mentorship. The role also assists the Clinical Managers with budget planning and financial oversight, ensuring operational targets and unit performance metrics are achieved.

This position champions evidence-based practice and continuous quality improvement in collaboration with Practice teams and the Clinical Managers. The COL also leads project and change management initiatives aligned with departmental and organizational goals and assumes departmental leadership in the Clinical Managers’ absence.

**MAJOR RESPONISBILITES**:
As delegated by the Clinical Managers:
- Participate in the recruitment and selection of staff.- Conduct performance appraisals and provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and mentorship.- Support and administer the Attendance Management Program.- Promote positive employee and labour relations, ensuring compliance with hospital policies, collective agreements, and employment legislation.- Uphold responsibilities under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and hospital safety protocols.- Collaborate with Professional Practice and the Clinical Managers on new staff orientation and onboarding.- Assist in monitoring staffing levels and patient assignments.- Lead and support quality and process improvement initiatives.- Facilitate patient flow and bed management processes; attend daily bed meetings as required.- Promote and support interdisciplinary collaboration to ensure integrated, patient-centered care.- Build strong relationships with allied health, medical, and support service teams to foster cohesive care planning and service delivery.- Provide guidance to staff regarding patient care and family concerns.- Investigate and address patient and family complaints in a timely manner.- Promote continuous quality improvement to meet clinical benchmarks and outcomes.- Use data analytics and reporting tools to inform staffing decisions, identify trends, and support quality improvement efforts.- Participate in weekly Quality Improvement Huddles.- Ensure compliance with privacy and confidentiality policies.- Conduct chart audits and monitor infection control practices, intervening as necessary.- Assess and manage clinical risk, escalating concerns appropriately.- Perform monthly workplace safety inspections.- Assist in budget planning and resource allocation.- Participate in program staff meetings and multidisciplinary rounds.- Champion equity, diversity, and inclusion by creating a respectful, culturally safe environment for patients and staff.- Lead or support annual best practice reviews.- Contribute to the strategic planning of unit initiatives in alignment with hospital and system-wide priorities.- Encourage a culture of innovation by identifying opportunities to enhance care delivery or improve workflows.- Contribute to and present quality improvement or research initiatives externally.

**QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS**:
- Registration in good standing with a recognized regulated health professional college.- Master’s degree is considered an asset.- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a healthcare setting with demonstrated clinical expertise.- Proven leadership experience; previous leadership/management of staff is preferred.- Strong background in change management and quality improvement.- Experience in using clinical and operational data to drive improvements and support decision-making is an asset.- Demonstrated understanding of health equity principles and a commitment to addressing systemic barriers to care and employment.- Knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, and clinical best practices.- Demonstrated ability to engage and develop staff in clinical skills.- Excellent organizational, decision-making, and critical-thinking skills.- Effective communication, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills.- Commitment to patient
