As the Rail Systems Technician, you are responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing Rail Systems Communication systems and equipment. Primary duties include:
- Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance such as conducting visual and physical inspections and operational and functional tests.
Respond to trouble calls advising of system failures and emergencies.
Investigate to determine the cause of the problem and conducts tests and repairs.
Participate in the design of new equipment or systems, preparation of specifications, technical drawing and procedures, identifying innovative solutions and piloting new products or upgrades.
Order, receive and maintain an inventory of parts and supplies and disposes obsolete equipment and materials.
- **Qualifications**
***A completed 1 year certificate in Telecommunications/Communications, Electronics, Control Automation, Information Technology or a related field with at least 5 years of experience, including 3 years of field service experience.
A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points, no current suspensions or charges pending is required.
Ability to obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.
Registration as a Certified Technician (CTech) with the Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta would be considered an asset.
Relevant experience working in the Light Rail Transit (LRT) sector is an asset.
Preference will be given to experience with the following equipments: Help Phone, Public Address, SCADA, Computers, Programmable logic controllers, IT networks, Two-way Radios, Distributed Antenna, UPS and Copper&Fiber cabling.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and excellent problem solving ability is required for success in this position.
- **Working Conditions**:This position has on-call (standby responsibilities) and is required to respond to trouble calls as assigned or on a rotational basis including after-hours, weekends and statutory holidays.
**Pre-employment Requirements**An enhanced security clearance will be conducted.
Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
- **Pre-employment Drug Test**: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.
