Seacoast Marine Electronics (SME) is a service provider of commercial marine electronics, VSAT communications and IT support to the marine industry in Canada. SME has offices in Halifax (headquarters), Vancouver and Hamilton, that serve deep-sea and Great Lakes vessels as well as offshore oil and gas platforms. SME provides support to the marine industry on a 24/7 basis.

The office in Hamilton Ontario is growing and has an exciting opportunity for an experienced **Marine Electronics Technician/IT Technician** to work on commercial vessels throughout Ontario and Quebec. The overall duties are to provide on-site and remote technical support in the installation, maintenance and repair of electronic communication, sound, sonar, navigation equipment and IT networking on marine vessels.

**Responsibilities include but are not limited to**:

- Install, maintain and repair commercial marine electrical and electronics equipment and systems, including but not limited to: Radars, VHF and GMDSS Radio Equipment, AIS, Inmarsat and VSAT Satellite equipment, Gyro compasses, Electronic Charts, Echosounder, Engine automation system, Weather observation and anemometers and (S)VDRs. Special preference is given to applicants with IT experience with advanced networking including switch configuration and VPN's as well as Linux driven systems.
- Inspect GMDSS radio equipment and (S)VDR equipment
- Repair and adjust system components, such as sensors, transmitters and programmable logic controllers, or remove and replace defective parts
- Calibrate electrical or electronic equipment and instruments according to technical manuals and written instructions
- Write accurate and detailed service reports

**Skills and abilities**:

- Self-motivated and able to work independently to organize and prioritize workloads.
- Ability to handle a soldering iron, read schematics, and use equipment such as an oscilloscope.
- Physically able to climb, lift and bend while comfortable working at heights on sea going vessels
- Above average computer skills, especially with networking and linux command line.
- Exceptional troubleshooting skills
- Strong customer focus demonstrating flexibility and initiative
- Ability to work independently and part of a team as required
- Ability to work outside of core business hours as required
- Valid Canadian driver’s license
- Ability to be on the road for several days at a time as service is provided at the client site

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $34.00 per hour
