**JOB SUMMARY -**Reporting to the Manager, Food Services, and in accordance with Ballenas Housing Society (Ballenas) mission, strategic direction, principles and policies, this position is primarily responsible for dishwashing and assisting the Chefs with food preparation.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen by washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, and taking out trash
- Comply with sanitation and food safety plans, maintain cleanliness and appearance, utilize personal protective clothing and equipment such as gloves, hair restraints, facemasks
- Set up, stock and organize kitchen stations with necessary supplies
- Perform basic food prep under the supervision of chefs or cooks preparing ingredients by washing, chopping, weighing, and ensuring that they are the correct quantity and quality
- Perform other kitchen duties as assigned

**REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS**

**Education / Experience**
- Food Safe Level 1 certification plus one (1) year experience as dishwasher and food prep is an asset

**Knowledge**
- Knowledge of safe work practices including relevant WorkSafeBC requirements and responsibilities, current public health, hygiene and food handling safety practices and procedures
- Organizational, prioritization and time management abilities

**Skills / Abilities**
- Understand and carry out oral and written instructions
- Work independently and as part of a team
- Perform multiple tasks in a demanding environment
- Demonstrate professional standards of personal conduct, accountability, and competence
- Operate a variety of kitchen equipment and machines safely
- Maintain cooperative working relationships with the leadership teams, staff, and tenants

**Working Conditions**
- Standing or walking throughout entire work shift in a noisy and fast paced work environment
