**JOB SUMMARY**
- Cultural and Heritage Programs is responsible for multi-disciplinary arts centres, heritage and museum facilities and structures, the delivery of arts, heritage and museum public programming and events, volunteer program development, audience development, and exhibits and research.
- You are responsible for the safe operation, maintenance and repair of historic early 1900’s working sawmill, shingle mill, and pump factory; assisting with the care of the museum livestock, agricultural fields, and gardens; assisting with museum event preparations; and undertaking minor woodworking projects and repairs.
**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**
- Completion of Grade 10
- Minimum of 2 years of experience operating and maintaining historic early 1900 saw and shingle mills and heritage agricultural machinery and equipment.
- Experience with standard modern woodworking equipment and power tools.
**CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES**
- Current Standard First Aid, CPR and/or AED certificates
- Valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
- Chainsaw Operator Safety training certificate
- Cutter-Skidder Operator training certificate is an asset
- TSSA Regulated Fuels Safety certificate (natural gas, propane and/or alternate fuel)
- TSSA Steam Traction (Boiler) Operator certificate is an asset
**KNOWLEDGE**
- Historical and technical knowledge of early 1900 saw and shingle mill trades
- Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.
- Desirable Qualifications:
- Courses in woodworking, early 1900 diesel/gasoline engine maintenance
- Experience in operating heritage agricultural machinery and equipment including tractors
**COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES**
- Must be able to operate and maintain historic mills and other heritage agricultural and machinery equipment of the early 1900’s
- Ability to operate and maintain modern standard tools/equipment including chainsaw, bench & table saws, drills, sanders, welding and soldering equipment, lawn mower, and like equipment
- Ability to perform minor equipment repairs
- Manual dexterity & accuracy in use of standard tools/equipment and historical saw and shingle mill equipment
- Familiarity with the care of farm animals and the maintenance of gardens
- Good interpersonal and communication skills to relate to museum visitors, volunteers and staff, and train seasonal staff and volunteers
- Comfortable wearing & working in period costume
- Good physical condition
- Must be willing to work specific shifts including weekends and evenings
**WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW**
- You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
- Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
