**ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNICIAN POSITION**
**Location**: Burnaby, BC
Sphere Environmental Ltd. (formerly Steer Environmental Associates Ltd.), a growing environmental consulting firm, is seeking a motivated and experienced **Environmental Technician**to join our team.
At Sphere, we offer a wide range of environmental services, including hazardous materials assessments, abatement compliance monitoring, air quality assessments, environmental monitoring, and contaminated site assessment and remediation services. **ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Conducting hazardous material surveys and assessments, including sampling for asbestos, lead, mould, and silica per WorkSafeBC regulatory requirements.
- Performing compliance monitoring for hazardous material abatement projects, including visual inspections and air monitoring.
- Conducting radon monitoring in residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings.
- Managing laboratory chain-of-custody documentation, data interpretation, and technical report preparation.
- Assisting in the preparation of risk assessments, exposure control plans, and safe work procedure compliance documentation as per WorkSafeBC.
- Knowledge of building components and systems is considered an asset.
- Environmental monitoring and assessment, including soil, groundwater, surface water, and vapour/indoor air sampling.
- Familiarity with environmental site assessment (ESA) requirements, BC Contaminated Sites Regulation (CSR), and Hazardous Waste Regulation (HWR) considered an asset.
**QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS**
**Education and Experience**:
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in science-related field, industrial hygiene, or health and safety discipline.
- **1-5 years of work experience** in environmental
- or hygiene-related fields.
- WorkSafeBC Level-S Surveyor Safety course considered an asset.
- Formal and on-the-job training opportunities will be provided.
**Skills and Attributes**:
- Strong ability to work independently with mínimal supervision.
- Strong technical writing and data interpretation.
- Confident verbal communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and PDF tools.
- Familiarity with hand and power tools.
**Other Requirements**:
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle for work-related travel.
- Physical ability to climb ladders, lift up to 50 pounds, and work in adverse weather conditions.
- Willingness to travel frequently within the region and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as and when needed.
