Vancouver, Canada Columbus Residence Full time

Columbus Residence is looking for a Casual Cook to join our team. This Long Term Care Home supports 76 residents with Nursing Care and takes pride in it's Food Service.

The job description is as follows, a Criminal Record Check, Tuberculosis test, fully vaccinated COVID status are required.

**KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**1.**Prepares assigned regular and therapeutic food menu items by following established menu rotations, standardized recipes and food production schedules and assembling ingredients and equipment required for cooking. Portions out and serves food according to resident preference texture modification and diet as established. Follows HCCAP requirements.

2. Participates in Food Production Meetings including input into menu planning.

3. Provides work direction to dietary staff and performs relief staffing in the absence of scheduling staff.

4. Orders, receives and checks supplies as required; resolves discrepancies with suppliers. Maintains established food rotations to minimize spoilage and waste.

5. Reports unsafe or faulty equipment to the designated Coordinator, and corrects where possible and reports accidents, unusual incidents in a timely manner.

6. Performs assigned cleaning duties.

7. Notes changes in residents' appetite or food preferences and reports observations to the Director of Support Services or Dietician.

8. Records and completes documents such as Food Production Schedules, Menu Substitution as required.

9. Carries out dietary aide duties.

10 Participates in the estimation of food requirements according to production schedules and resident texture census.

11. Plans preparation and cooking schedules.

12. Performs other related duties as assigned.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE**:
**-**Minimum Grade 12 Education.
- Graduation from a recognized 12 month program in institutional cooking that meets the Employer's standard plus one year's recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Completion of the Level 1 Food Safe Programme Certificate.

**SKILLS AND ABILITIES**

1. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

2. Ability to deal with others effectively.

3. Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

4. Ability to organize work.

5. Ability to operate related equipment.

**Job Type**: Casual

Pay: $28.01 per hour

Schedule:

- 8 hour shift

**Experience**:

- cooking: 1 year (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

- Food Safe, SafeCheck, Food Handler or equivalent (required)
