The Bruce County Transportation and Environmental Services Department has approximately 650 km of road and approximately 148 bridges under its jurisdiction. The department administers a road system composed of 'collector and arterial' roads, which distinguishes the County system from the local municipal road system. This system provides a consistent level of service between local urban, industrial, commercial and recreational centres. The Transportation and Environmental Services Department also coordinates Waste Management for the County. About the Job Reporting to the Foreperson, the Labour Patroller is responsible for patrolling County roads to monitor road conditions to identify and determine and instruct maintenance needs for winter operations. The incumbent is responsible for assisting in maintaining the Department’s operational program by performing labouring duties to complete maintenance and repairs, the duties will be performed in various locations dependent on maintenance needs and weather. The Labour Patroller will perform patrolling and road and right of way maintenance activities contingent with the Bruce County levels of service and Minimum Maintenance Standards. Salary & Benefits **Location**: Walkerton ON Status: Seasonal contract until April 2025 32 hours per week with weekend shifts **Salary**: $29.03 per hour (2024 rate) $29.90 per hour (2025 rate) **Benefits**: OMERS Pension Employee Assistance Program, Discounts Health, Safety & Wellness: Health & Safety Program Workplace Mental Health Program Health & Wellness Committee Activities **Requirements**: Secondary School Graduation - Grade 12 High School/Equivalent experience D-Z Ontario Driver’s License 1 year of previous related experience, as asset Basic understanding of road maintenance Ability to work independently or as a team member Proven communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills Knowledge of health and safety legislation and regulations Capable of working in adverse road and weather conditions. Sound analytical and decision making skills Ability to complete labour intensive work, including heavy lifting. Ability to understand and follow detailed procedures, instructions, and take directions. Ability to accurately complete various logs, documents, inspection forms and other information using software programs. Knowledge of minimum maintain standards and commercial vehicle operator’s registration.
