**Major Responsibilities**:
- Performs skilled trade work and is responsible for electrical, electronic instrumentation equipment and control system overhauling, installation and maintenance of all processes in an advanced Solid Waste Management Services or Landfill Facility environment.
- Trains, directs, assists and supports skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled staff as required. Takes a leadership role and is accountable for individual and team performance in achieving work area objectives. Fosters and supports a team environment.
- Inspects, tests, records, monitors, and performs analysis, evaluation, selection, integration, installation and maintenance on electrical, electronic and instrumentation control devices and systems used in major Solid Waste Management Services or Landfill facilities and ensures compliance to all regulatory requirements and procedures.
- Assists in the maintenance and cleaning of work areas.
- Utilizes process operations, WMS records to interpret equipment performance. Performs checks and calibration as required.
- Utilizes a number of different computerized software systems, such as Process Control System (PCS) involving a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) based system and Programmable Logic controllers, Building Automation Systems, Work Management System (WMS), and other related technology.
- Makes timely decisions and addresses/responds to alarm conditions and emergencies.
- Perform electrical equipment installation, install EMT and rigid conduits, underground electrical wiring, Surface mounted and/ or overhead wiring, Splice, Join and connect wires, electrical control panel wiring, etc for various maintenance and construction projects.
- Perform electrical work in compliance with Ontario electrical safety code, read and interpret blueprints, maps, drawings and specifications to plan the work.
- Estimate cost and materials.
- Provides, updates and maintains the required documentation of all work area electrical maintenance activities.
- Initiates and expedites material purchase orders, issues tracking and payment documents, receives materials, maintains inventories and records using computerized systems.
**Key Qualifications**:
- Must possess and be able to maintain a current Certificate of Qualification as an Industrial Electrician 442A or as a Construction and Maintenance Electrician (Branch 1) 309A in accordance with the regulations enforced in the Province of Ontario.
- Experience in a wide variety of commercial and industrial electrical Instrumentation work as it applies to power distribution and controls for facilities, Process control systems for Landfill Flare system, conveyors, pumps, fans, gas detection, BAS automation, PLC controlled Hydraulic compactors etc.
- Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario Class “G” licence and qualify for the City’s equipment operating permits and requirements as determined by work location.
**On-The-Job Training Program (Approximately 12 Months)**
Employees in this program shall receive the rates of pay applicable to the training rates for the SWMS EICT classification set out below:
Training Rate 1 41.24 (for first 6 months)
Training Rate 2 $41.96 (6th to 9th month)
Training Rate 3 $42.81 (after 9th month)
Training Rate 4 $43.77 (after successful completion of the program)
**You must also have**:
- Must obtain within 90 days a Landfill Gas Electricians (IMT-E) license, and be able to maintain the same, as determined by work location.
- Extensive knowledge of the theory and practice of electricity including polyphase circuits and good working knowledge of 110 to 27,600-volt equipment and circuits.
- Must possess a thorough knowledge of computers including operation of various software programs (e.g. Work Management System, Allen Bradely PLC) and ability to make necessary calculations and interpret data.
- Thorough knowledge of the maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of programmable controllers, remote terminal units and data communications circuits, pneumatic and hydraulic instrumentation.
- Thorough understanding of the principals, standard methods, technology, materials and tools used in the SWMS EICT (Electrical/Electronic/Instrumentation Control principles).
- Demonstrated ability to read, interpret and prepare layouts, diagrams, schematics and manuals.
- Knowledge of electrical controls and monitors as applied to programmable logic controllers, motor types, motor magnetic center, lockouts and grounding.
