Position Summary
Laboratory Technician, Molecular Genetics
Performs laboratory procedures in accordance with program and divisional policies. Procedures include: specimen receiving and processing, receiving supplies, data entry, chart preparation and filing. All roles are essential in providing a safe and healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and others by ensuring that health and safety policies are followed.
On a practical level, you will

Responsible for filing and data entry.

Be responsible for specimen receiving, sorting and preparation for testing.

Be responsible for the storage and retrieval of frozen samples as required.

Prepare and pack samples for shipping out according to safety and TDG guidelines.

Receive laboratory supplies.

Perform other duties as required in accordance with departmental and divisional policies.

**Qualifications**:
Grade 12 education.

Certificate from a laboratory technician training program.

OSMT Certification or equivalent.

Laboratory experience required (Genetics experience an asset).

Ability to organize and prioritize workload.

Ability to follow instructions and perform assigned tasks.

Accuracy in specimen handling and labeling.

Ability to communicate in written and oral English.

Computer skills.

Ability to write legibly and to accurately record/enter laboratory data.

Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and teamwork.
