Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.
Position Overview
The Transplant Coordinator is primarily affiliated with the Adult Renal Transplant Program and has the same on-call functions as the Multi-Organ Donor Coordinator of the Manitoba Organ Donor Organization. In addition, the Transplant Coordinator provides assistance to the Pediatric Renal Transplant Program.
Under the general direction of the Manager, Health Services and the Medical Director - Manitoba Adult Renal Transplant Program, the incumbent is responsible for:
Coordinating the functions and activities that relate to the Manitoba Adult Renal Transplant Program.
Ensuring that all prerequisites for kidney donation, according to established policies, procedures and protocols, are adequately fulfilled.
Initiating and organizing the pre-transplant evaluation according to protocol of potential renal recipients.
Assisting with data collection, recording, statistical analysis, etc. under supervision and according to established protocols and clinical study guidelines (Canadian Institute for Health Research and National Institute of Health).
Conducting in-service education to nephrology nursing staff covering organ and tissue donation and transplantation at the professional/health care facility level.
Conducting educational programs for patients and their families.
Updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), protocols and educational materials for health care professional, patients, and family-members.
Participating in the development and maintenance of a total quality management program in compliance with Health Canada Accreditation Standards as it relates to the Adult Renal Transplant Program.
On-call and Coverage Functions for the Multi Organ Donor Coordinator Using established protocols to initiate and coordinate deceased donor evaluations when on call or providing coverage for the Multi-Organ Donor Coordinator.
Ensuring that all prerequisites for multi-organ and tissue donation, according to established policies, procedures and protocols, are adequately fulfilled.
Assisting with organ perfusion and preservation, when necessary, under the supervision of the transplant surgeon. Organizing and conducting in and out-of-province organ retrieval and shipping.
Experience
Minimum four years recent related nursing experience required.
Adult Intensive Care Nursing Course or equivalent, required.
Experience and interest in professional/public education preferred.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
Graduate from an approved School of Nursing required.
Bachelor's degree in Nursing required.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
Must have current driver's license and have access to a reliable vehicle with valid registration.
Active participation in professional associations e.g. Association of Regulated Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM) preferred.
Current registration or eligibility for registration with C.R.N.M.
Qualifications and Skills
Scope of practice as documented in the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA).
Must have computer experience in word processing/data entry.
Must have good communication and problem-solving skills.
Must have excellent interpersonal skills.
Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions and values.
Physical Requirements
Must be flexible, i.e. ability to take on-call and to work long continuous periods; ability to travel long distances by air and car required.
