**Warehouse Lead**:
The Warehousing Lead is responsible for assisting the Supervisor, Warehousing in executing day-to-day warehousing activities in support of new vessels constructed by Seaspan Vancouver Shipyards. The complexity of the role is augmented by the fact that this position will fulfill supervisory duties in the absence of the Supervisor, Warehousing.
This is a hands-on role that performs material receipt, inventory management, order kitting, packing and shipping tasks related to materials and equipment required for new vessel construction.
Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2275 Douglas Road, Burnaby Warehouse.
**Duties and Accountabilities**
- Identify and communicate the actions needed to implement the function’s strategy and business plan within the business area or department; explain the relationship to the broader organization's mission, vision, and values; motivate people to commit and to achieve business goals.
- Relocate personnel to eliminate bottlenecks and increase productivity where necessary.
- Actively participate in receiving, inventory control, order picking, packing and shipping operations.
- Prioritize assigned tasks and ensure timely and accurate completion.
- Assist other warehouse staff with larger, more critical transfers, orders, or receipts.
- Provide guidance to co-workers for task clarification or resolution of minor issues.
- Adhere to established operational processes and procedures and provide input to making improvements.
- Ensure appropriate filing of all warehouse paperwork, including packing slips, inventory count sheets, picklists, shipping documents and transaction reports.
- Ensure inventory accuracy by performing physical counts, reconciling variances and inputting count data.
- Investigate inventory discrepancies and work to ensure that future discrepancies are minimized.
- Minimize warehouse equipment downtime by following operating instructions, ensuring scheduled preventive maintenance are conducted and reporting breakdowns.
- Utilize warehouse space optimally to prevent loss or damage, achieve full warehouse optimization and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment by observing all company safety policies and procedures.
- Provide back-up coverage for Warehouse Supervisor when absent.
- When directed, coordinate activities with Planning, Operations, Procurement, Quality, and Logistics team members.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
**Education and Experience**
- 8+ years demonstrated warehousing operations experience in a manufacturing environment, with minimum one year of supervisory experience.
- Sit-Down Counter Balance Forklift operator certificate.
- Experience in defining warehouse processes and procedures, staff recruitment, training and performance management.
- Enrolment in professional development or training through an accredited institution such as the BCIT Materials Management certification or The Association for Operations Management (APICS) is desirable.
- Lean Green Belt and/or Six Sigma training is desirable.
**Skills, Knowledge and Competencies**
- Direct working knowledge of warehouse operations, inventory management systems and manufacturing operations.
- Demonstration of exemplary business ethics, integrity and honesty in all situations.
- Knowledge of WorkSafeBC safety regulations as they pertain to warehouse operations and handling of hazardous materials.
- Direct knowledge of WHMIS and other safety systems.
- Ability to carry out assignments accurately and in the most efficient and safest manner.
- Communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Organizational skills and the ability to work independently or within a team dynamic.
- Appreciates and understands the value of diversity within a team.
- Ability to make mature and timely job site decision.
- High degree of tenacity, self-motivation, and innovation.
- Analytical skills to capture and analyze/synthesize data, confirming its accuracy and adequacy.
- Knowledge of process improvement techniques.
- Ability to maintain appropriate and complete documentation regarding regulated products and/or hazardous materials.
- Demonstration of exemplary business ethics, integrity, and honesty in all situations.
- Ability to work in a noisy environment and outdoor weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lb.
