Reporting to the Director, Interprofessional Practice, the Health Disciplines Professional Practice Leader (HD PPL) provides leadership in interprofessional clinical and professional practice, education and research utilization. As a change agent, expert clinician and collaborator, the HD PPL supports and advances the goals and objectives of the hospital to foster excellent patient care. Discipline groups supported include: Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist Assistant, Registered Dietitians, Speech Language Pathologists, Social Workers and Recreational Therapists.
**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Maintain current knowledge of specific disciplines scope of practice and health legislation impacting on the practice of health care disciplines
- Works with members of each discipline to ensure knowledge of and adherence to profession specific standards across the organization
- Collaborates with interprofessional team members to leas liaise and/or participate in development, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and revision of patient care processes using in-depth knowledge of relevant legislation, professional practice standards and best evidence
- Leads and/or consults on development of corporate and discipline specific education initiatives (including orientation and continuing education), policies, procedures and standards that support safe, effective, ethical practice
- Ensures consistency of practice within units and across sites to maximize quality patient care
- Provides education for skills and certifications beyond the principle expectations of practice and delegated controlled acts (e.g. Non-violent crisis intervention, Restraints, GPA)
- Facilitates/leads/supports processes that enable effective Interprofessional team functioning and patient/family involvement
- Uses a variety of adult learning strategies and evaluation techniques that are well aligned to the intended learning outcomes
- Utilizes best available evidence as the basis of all practice, education and professional leadership activities (e.g. practice projects, education classes, policy/procedure development)
- Evaluates impact of best practice changes and recommends strategies and action plans for continuous quality improvement
- Leads and/or is a member of relevant hospital committees
- Develops and/or maintains external professional relationships, including with major academic partners, to help support the professional practice of the health disciplines and to highlight Lakeridge Health externally
- Participates when relevant in the evaluation of processes for new equipment/clinical products
- Participates in recruitment strategies
- Supports staff participation in personal and professional career development.
- Leads and participates in competency assessments to identify and provide educational support (where indicated) for performance issues and learning gaps.
- Assists managers with performance appraisals and consults on and/or develops performance improvement plans with staff as appropriate
- Contributes to Lakeridge Health's annual business planning and departmental planning
- Works with human resources, occupational health, and manager to ensure a safe working environment
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Current Registration and in good standing with an appropriate Health Discipline Regulatory College
- Master's degree preferred or evidence of working towards
- Proven experience in a practical/clinical role
- In-depth understanding of professional practice and patient care standards
- Theoretical and practical experience in adult education including educational program planning, development and evaluation;
- Demonstrated experience with program planning and evaluation, and managing organizational change initiatives;
- Demonstrated understanding of current theory and literature pertaining to intra and interprofessional practice and education;
- Demonstrated leadership, team building, communication and interpersonal skills, creativity and adaptability in working with discipline staff, other professionals and physicians to maximize quality patient care
- Experience with online learning modalities would be an asset
- Proven effective interpersonal and communication skills
- Proven effective leadership and collaboration skills;
- Demonstrated effective critical thinking, prioritization, and conflict resolution skills;
- Ability to travel between LH sites;
- Eligibility for cross appointment within an academic setting preferred;
- Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance with LH standards;
