**Agreement**

As part of the Nipissing Specialized Geriatric Services, the Seniors’ Mental Health Regional Consultation
Service (SMH RCS) works collaboratively alongside Behavioural Supports Ontario, Nipissing Specialized
Geriatric Clinic and key partners to promote mental wellness and independence, prevent hospitalization
and optimize overall quality of life for the individual and their care partner(s). The successful Seniors’
Mental Health _Clinician _will work within a compassionate person-focused philosophy aligned with best
practice principles and frameworks and in accordance with respective standards of clinical practice.
Reporting to the Manager and Coordinator of Nipissing Specialized Geriatric Services, the successful
incumbent will demonstrate a commitment to NBRHC’s organizational values.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

**Certification/Experience/Knowledge**:
Bachelor’s University Degree in a human health science field/equivalent required; additional
training and/or certification in Geriatric Mental Health, Gerontology, Psychiatric Nursing an asset;
Registered Health Care Professional with current membership in good standing with a regulated
governing body (e.g. Nursing, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Etc.) required;
Minimum of three (3) years of clinical geriatric mental health outreach experience required;
Demonstrated extensive knowledge and applied clinical skills working with older adults with

various neurocognitive impairments, mental health, substance use and other neurological

conditions required;
Demonstrated clinical competence and inter-collaborative skills to promote, facilitate and
integrate best practice principles in geriatric mental health and behavioural health required;
Certification in the following fundamental geriatric mental health core competencies: GPA,
P.I.E.C.E.S., DementiAbility Methods, Positive Approaches to Care, CAGP Psychiatry

Course required;
Experience and demonstrated commitment to quality improvement and change
initiatives required;
Knowledge of community support services, primary/specialty health care and mental health
systems required;

Indigenous Cultural Safety Training certificate required;
Trauma-Informed Core Competency Training required;
Knowledge of consent and capacity matters and legislation applicable to this older adult

population (e.g. Public Guardian Trustee, Substitute Decision Maker Act, Health Care

Consent Act; Mental Health Act; Long-term Care Act; PHIPA) required;
**Skills/Abilities**:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively document and convey
essential clinical and systems information required;
Demonstrated cultural awareness and competence in working with older adults and care partners
from diverse backgrounds and across various sectors required;
Proven interpersonal and critical thinking skills to establish and maintain positive working
relationships with patients, care partners, team members and partners required;
Proven organizational and time management skills, along with the ability work in
a self-directed manner required;
Demonstrated integrity and self-awareness with regard to work life balance
required;
Meditech Expanse, Ontario Telemedicine Network, other video-conferencing platforms

Must have a valid driver’s license, willingness to travel on a regular basis and access to full
time use of reliable vehicle is required.
