General Labourer

Kangaroo Contracting Inc. is a Decking and Fence Installation, Landscape Maintenance and Snow Removal company located in Nanaimo, BC. We are looking to hire a general labour that will be assisting our carpenters with building fences, decks, stairs and residential and commercial renovations.

Job Requirements:

- A VALID Class 5 Driver’s license
- A RELIABLE and CONSISTENT mode of transportation to and from work office (own vehicle is preferred)
- A working cell phone with an active plan (we need to be able to get a hold of you during a shift and all our scheduling and clock in/clock out systems are online)
- Clean criminal record check
- Must be prepared to work outside in any and all-weather conditions and wear appropriate work clothing including steel toe boots and a safety vest (work shirt and hat/toque with company logo provided)
- Must be able to lift, carry, and push equipment and materials like but not limited to lawn clippings, fence panels, bags of cement, power tools, lawn mower etc.
- Must be sober and smoke free while on shift (includes the use of marijuana and vaping of any kind)
- Must be familiar with and can operate small machines such as a cement mixer, chop saw, nail gun etc.
- Must be able to follow basic instruction, complete a daily list of work tasks in a timely manner
- Must have an attention to detail, be willing to learn, and take pride in their work
- Must be a team player and be trusted to work semi-independently

**Job Description**:
Assisting one of our lead hands with the following daily tasks:
**Responsibilities**:

- Assist in all construction, repair, and maintenance of fences, decks, and other outdoor structures.
- Participate in custom projects, including but not limited to landscaping enhancements, outdoor living spaces, and hardscape installations.
- Support construction and renovation projects by performing tasks such as demolition, framing, and finishing work.
- Digging post holes, mixing concrete, and shoveling dirt as part of fence and deck installation projects. Ensure accuracy and precision in digging holes to proper depths and dimensions, mix concrete to specified ratios, and shovel dirt to backfill holes and level surfaces as required. Collaborate with team members to complete tasks efficiently and according to project timelines.
- Operate hand and power tools to complete assigned tasks safely and efficiently.
- Responsibility for ensuring all batteries are charged and equipment is prepared for the next day's tasks. This includes monitoring battery levels, charging batteries as needed, and organizing tools and equipment for easy access. Maintain cleanliness and organization within the tool trailer, ensuring tools are stored securely and inventory is properly documented. This proactive approach ensures efficiency and readiness for daily operations.
- Loading and unloading building and landscaping materials, tools, and equipment at job sites.
- Drive company trucks and tow trailers as needed, ensuring safe transportation of materials and personnel.
- Collaborate with team members to attach trailers to company trucks and ensure proper alignment and hitch connection.
- Conduct thorough work site clean-up upon completion of tasks, ensuring all tools, equipment, and materials are properly stored and secured. Remove debris, sweep surfaces, and dispose of waste in designated areas to maintain a safe and organized work environment. Take initiative to identify and address any hazards or potential safety risks.
- Collect and dispose of garbage, debris, and construction waste in compliance with environmental regulations and company policies.
- Perform snow removal and de-icing duties during the winter season to maintain safe and accessible pathways for clients.
- Participate in pressure washing and painting projects to enhance the appearance of outdoor surfaces and structures.
- Assist in marketing initiatives by distributing promotional materials and engaging with potential clients.
- Follow safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment for yourself and team members.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to coordinate tasks and ensure client satisfaction.
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor while representing Kangaroo Contracting on job sites and client properties.

**Salary**: $22.00-$26.00/hr (depending on experience, work ethic, and productivity)

Schedule:

- 8am start and 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday

Work Location:
We service a range of commercial and residential locations in from Qualicum Beach to Ladysmith, BC. Employee(s) would be required to arrive at the company address and ride in the work truck to the designated job site.

Pay: $22.00-$26.00 per hour
