Sinai Health is looking for a Laboratory Genetic Counsellor and Genetic Data Specialist to support our Diagnostic Medical Genetics team at Mount Sinai Hospital.

The position is shared between Cytogenetics and Molecular laboratories in the Division of Diagnostic Medical Genetics.

The Diagnostic Medical Genetics Laboratory at Mount Sinai Hospital is a hub for cutting-edge diagnostic testing and innovative method and test development. We are dedicated to improving patient care through a deeper understanding of genetics. Equipped with advanced technologies, the lab offers a wide range of genetic and genomic testing, supporting diverse clinical needs across various specialties. A collaborative spirit thrives within the lab, bringing together a team of skilled professionals, including geneticists, genetic counselors, variant analysts, bioinformaticians, medical laboratory technologists and technicians. This team is united by a shared passion for unraveling the complexities of genetic disorders, pioneering new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, and ultimately, making a tangible difference in the lives of patients and their families.

**In this role you will**:

- Utilize your knowledge on genomic microarray and next generation sequencing technologies to interpret results of genetic testing
- Perform in-depth variant assessments to provide clinical interpretation of genomic findings in order to assess their clinical relevance
- Develop and update variant assessment protocols in keeping with current literature and professional guidelines
- Assist Molecular and Cytogenetics Laboratory Directors in the preparation of clinical reports and clinical interpretation of genetics test results
- Establish phenotype-genotype links in relation to a large spectrum of genetic disorders
- Act as a liaison between ordering clinicians (e.g. genetic counselors), other external genetics laboratories and our laboratory
- Act as a consultant to all laboratory staff in order to provide an advanced level of genetic counselling knowledge and practice
- Prepare written correspondence, reports, and presentations
- Participate in service planning, reporting, and evaluation and providing operational and strategic advice in relation to clinical genetics
- Interact with internal and external stakeholders and participate in quality assurance plans and activities as required
- Job Requirements**Job Requirements**:
Mandatory
- Masters or Ph.D. degree in related field with analytical and scientific competence and knowledge of genetic concepts
- Certification (or eligible for certification) with Canadian Association of Genetic Counsellors or the American Board of Genetic Counsellors
- Applicants with proven equivalent recent and related training and experience may also be considered.
- Three years' recent and related experience

Preferred
- Recent and related experience in genetic counselling
- Strong background in genomic database utilization

Skills and Knowledge
- Capable of understanding and assessing genomic variants
- Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders to understand/design report formats and process for reporting
- Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history
