**STUDENT MENTORS - SUMMER LEARNING PROGRAMS (ELEMENTARY)**

Temporary - up to 15 positions available

The Student Mentor program is intended for students currently enrolled in a post-secondary program (college, university, apprenticeship, etc.), especially those interested in pursuing a future career in education.

This year (2025), Summer Learning Programs will include both in-person and online learning formats. All educational staff, including the Student Mentors, will be expected to work in-person supporting students and educators enrolled in all programs. Student programs will be located at West Bayfield Elementary (Barrie), Worsley Elementary (Wasaga Beach), and Regent Park (Orillia).

**QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE**:

- currently enrolled in a post-secondary education program (college, university, apprenticeship, etc.)
- interest in student instructional/engagement learning strategies that support learning in the areas of mathematics, early reading instruction, multilingual learners, and/or the use of assistive technology
- self-directed learner
- ability to work independently
- must be self-motivated
- cooperative and works well with others (staff and students) in a team driven environmentwillingness to learn and will carry out assigned duties to support the successful operation of the programs

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- assist students in the Summer Learning Program
- maintaining materials and technology for all Summer Learning programs
- planning and maintaining site organization
- promoting student care and respect for learning materials, tools, and technology
- promote a growth mindset in learning (i.e., model and demonstrate how mistakes and challenges are essential to the learning process)
- reflect on objectives and provide strategies for increased student learning and engagement
- observe elementary students and ensure they are learning in a safe manner
- model oral communication skills required in an education setting (i.e., collaboration, communication, character, creativity, critical thinking, and citizenship)interact with various elementary school staff and complete any other duties as assigned by the Summer Learning Program Coordinator

**Salary Range**:$21.00 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay

**Date / Hours**:July 3 and July 4, 2023 (8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. - 6 hours per day for 2 days of mandatory training)

July 7 to July 25 2023 (8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. - 4 hours per day for 15 days for the Summer Learning Program)
