**The Department**
The Learning Commons is the academic heart of our institution: a place to engage, learn, and discover. We offer supports to help faculty and students engage in teaching, learning, and research, all in one place Our team of librarians and academic support professionals offer a multitude of services including academic coaching, assistive technology, exam accommodations, skills building, and a testing centre.
**The Role**
The Peer Tutor offers additional support on a casual basis to students taking classes in which the tutor has already demonstrated mastery. A Peer Tutor is expected to
- Come to meetings with students on time and ready to help.
- Allow students to set the meeting agenda.
- Ask students to demonstrate their understanding of the material covered.
- Show students the strengths and weaknesses of their work and how to correct their own work.
- At all times demonstrate patience and maturity when dealing with challenging questions or a variety of student learning styles.
Job Requirements
- A minimum grade of 75% in any course they plan to tutor.
- Excellent mentoring, communication, and interpersonal skills.
